Amazon releases new Echo Dot & Echo Tap devices!

Anyone with a dot could you feel it and let me know if you think it’s abnormally warm? Mine is hot to the touch. Not so hot it’s alarming but way warmer than I would expect. Before I contact Amazon. Thanks!

It does seem a lot warmer than it should be for sitting here idle.

Here’s what I found in Fahrenheit:

88.8 (on metal surface)
111.3 (bottom partially exposed)
116.9 (wooden surface)
121.6 (on paper pad)

The warmest part of the Echo was 95.3.

I’m not sure but I also think it may be cooler when there is less noise.

Yes, to me the 121.6 degrees seems surprisingly warm.

EDIT: Noise level doesn’t seem to impact temperature.

My $30 Black & decker thermal leak detector says my Echo Dot is 85 degrees right after I use her a couple of times

Right after I use her, she’s 98.6. —oh wait, that’s not Alexa.

I wanted to share this 3D printed wall mount for the dot that I found on thingiverse.

I’m having one printed in black pla right now. It will be a while before I mount it as I am going to have an electrician add an outlet on the other side of the wall for it, but I will post a picture of it when I get it, and have it installed.

Ooh, looks like what my wife was looking for. Is it expensive to have one printed? I’ve have zero experience with 3D printing.

I’m sure it would only be a few dollars in materials if I had a printer myself. I’ve used https://www.3dhubs.com to find people in my area before. That is what I did in this case. It was $22.00 printed for black pla in 100 micron layer heights (but the price will vary with material, print quality, and vendor)

Thank you! I will have to read up a little bit, I do see some hubs close to me so this looks good.

Yep this is really cool. I sent out a request for one too. Thanks for the info, never knew hubs like this existed.

@DipSmithLLC could do it too!

Hes my contact for the fire tablet wall mount…Just saying.

Doesn’t Office Depot or some big box store do 3D printing now if you bring them a file?

I think it varies by location. Some UPS stores have 3-D printers:

In the San Francisco Bay area where I live, some public libraries have 3D printers you can use for free. This is reportedly becoming more common around the country, so it’s worth checking your library system. :sunglasses:

Hello everyone, I’ve looked at the file and I feel confident I can provide my services to anyone interested to print this and ship it for under $20 in the US. Mount will be printed in PLA. I’m 4.5 hours into a 9-10 hour print but I intend to print one of these tomorrow. I’m also going to see about doing a chamfer on the mounting holes to recess screw heads for a slightly cleaner install. I can share pictures some time tomorrow along with actual pricing.

Thanks!
Michael Smith

Thanks! Interested.

My neighborhood in Long Island, NY has public libraries with 3D printers also. They have huge banners outside stating so.

I’ve had a chance to print one of these. I modified it by including holes with a chamfer rim so the head of a screw can be countersunk, but I’ve also left the original holes for nails if you prefer to mount that way.

I can offer these in white or black PLA for $16 shipped.

While materials last I can print in brown PLA for $12 shipped

I expect to complete my current batch of orders for Amazon Fire frames late next week at which point I could begin shipping these.

If you’re interested please message me here.

Thanks,
Michael Smith

At this time I can only add one image per post.
