I only got a Echo remote ($12).
I would have gotten a Dot or a Kindle Oasis if they’d been put on sale, but no dice.
Ah well.
I"m hoping the remote’s range will reach to my bedroom.
If not, then I’ll put it in my Kitchen so I can dictate my grocery list without having to shout.
I’m touching my remotes only once in a while to change the batteries, and that’s because when I want to play tricks on my boys using the “Simon says…” both remotes are usually dead…
How did you manage to get the Echo remote at that price? Was it a deal later in the day?

I wouldn’t pay full price for it, but for $12, it’s worth a shot.
Really, the times when I want it most in the kitchen is when there’s a timer going off and I’m yelling from the other room trying to get her to turn it off but she can’t hear me over her own beeping. Dictating grocery lists would be nice too, but I do tend to make those piecemeal as the I run out/see I’m getting low on items, and I doubt I’d really bother to grab the remote for just one command when I can just yell.
Or, for the bedroom, I really just want to turn my coffee pot on as I’m hitting the snooze button. (It usually turns on as soon as I get out of bed, but if I’m sleeping in and running short on time, I sometimes turn it on a bit early.)
For that I use IFTTT. When Alexa alarm goes off, start the pot. It’s been working great when I am not too lazy at night to fill the coffee maker.
Yeah, it showed up pretty late at night. I noticed it around 9 or 10 PM? It wasn’t there earlier in the day.
It was $7 or $8 off for ordering via Alexa and I hadn’t used the $10 off any Alexa order yet.
My Echo is downstairs and my bedroom is upstairs. I just use my phone as an alarm clock.
Right now, I have the coffee pot set up to turn on as part of my “good morning” mode which is triggered by a motion sensor just outside the bedroom door. It works fine as long as I’m not sleeping in.
Come to think of it, as long as I’m going to be fumbling for a remote when I’m half-asleep, I may as well just reprogram one of my bedside minimote buttons to control the coffee. I was focused on using Alexa to do it, since I was hoping for another Dot, but there’s no real reason I can’t do it another way.

I got that as well, which is nice considering when the discount didn’t work I removed a few items I had planned on buying with the discount since I didn’t need to reach the $150 threshold anymore.

Gotta dumb question. I got my 7 inch Fire tablet & I can’t find the SmartThings app in the Amazon app store.
Is there a simple way to get it on there?

To just “sideload” an App you don’t need root, just “Allow App installs from unknown sources” and search for a recent APK to download. You may need ES File Explorer or similar to open the APK file.
Though technically copyright violation, I actually have Chrome running on a stock Fire (no rooting necessary).
Root has a lot of value though, but I’m keeping this Fire at stock to test SmartTiles V6.
" simplest" way which leaves the Amazon OS intact is to get ES file explorer from Amazon appstore, go into setting and allow apps from unknown sources, then go to 1mobile market and you can get and install “most” Google play apps from there. Big word of caution is DO NOT allow 1mobile to auto update apps. It will update Amazon specific versions of Netflix, Amazon prime etc to the Google Play versions and really screw with your world.
The preferred option is to follow the instructions posted above from XDA and root the tablet install full version of Google Play ( and all Google apps) and then shut off Amazon Updates.
You need to do this before you connect it to your WiFi and allow it to update the OS. Amazon does not like us messing with their toys and keeps finding new ways to block us from rooting the tablets and installing Google.
The best way to do this to use the “SuperTool” at the link I provided. It will allow you to sideload the Google Play store directly – I’m pretty certain you do not need to root the device to do this. Once you have Play installed, just install the SmartThings app. This is much better than looking for the APK to install from somewhere else, or using any other market app.
I really should have bought a 3rd one on Prime Day; last night I realized where I could put an additional one use. 
Thanks, whoismoses, tgauchat & RLDreams for your help. I hope my initial question helped some others with the same question. But, for 23 bucks, that’s too much work for my no-tech lazy ass. Gonna give the tablet to my granddaughter for her 6th birthday in a week. (That will keep her off my daughters $400 iPad) Maybe.
Since I’m a billionaire (bwaa haha haa ), I’ll just buy a decent Android tablet. 
Alternatively, just load up the SmartTiles and use it as a dashboard for that. Still can control scenes/switches/monitor services through that.
Is there a way to permanently disable “Display AutoOFF” on FireOS? I want to permanently plug mine in with Smarttliles as the display window.
