Hi, me and my mum have our own Amazon accounts tied to all our Amazon Echo devices in our house.
I have the Amazon Echo SmartThings skill on my Amazon account linked to my SmartThings account and that works fine, however when I link the Amazon Echo SmartThings skill on my Mums Amazon account, it only stays linked for a day or two before it stops working.
How do I fix this, as it’s a constant nuisance to keep switching accounts on the Amazon echo devices in our house to control our automation/lights, etc…
Are you using the same smartthings account for both users?
If so, that’s the issue. The integration has usually been at the account level and historically things got pretty muddled if you tried to link two Alexa accounts to the same smartthings account.
I’m not up-to-date on the current configuration issues, so hopefully someone else who knows will chime in, or you can go ahead and contact SmartThings support.
Yes, trying to link my Mums Amazon account to my SmartThings account.
I want her to be able to control my SmartThings Z-Wave devices, but not give her direct access to my SmartThings account.
Can I add a second SmartThings account to my location/hub with all my devices, and then use that second SmartThings account to link to my Mums Amazon account?
Can I add a second SmartThings account to my location/hub with all my devices, and then use that second SmartThings account to link to my Mums Amazon account?
You would need to create the Second Samsung Account first. Here’s a link to create a new Samsung Account that will be able to be added as a Member to your Hub’s Location: Samsung Account
Using the ST App, you would follow the steps in this troubleshooting article below to add the Samsung Account as a Member to the Hub’s location allowing you to link that Account with the desired Amazon Account via QR Code, Samsung Account Invite.
Note: You can only be signed into or switch between one Samsung Account on a device, This will allow direct access to the devices on the Smart Things Account if the new user has access to the ST App. (If the second user is able to create the account on their Android device, you have the option of hiding the app from app list or placing it into the secure folder as devices are able to be controlled and managed allowing for adding/deleting capabilities)
