Aeotec smart home hub Matter over thread issues

I have the smart home hub by Aeotec. In the settings I can see the thread network.

When I go to add a matter over thread device on my iPhone I get the add to iCloud prompts then a notice “thread boarder router required” and links to apples thread devices. I looked in the advanced Ui and it indicates “external thread device required: false”

So I’m not sure why I can’t add there level locks to my system.

Any thoughts?

Just to make sure: you’re using the SmartThings app?

Yes the initial step in the ST app is to add to iCloud. See attached screen shot

This seems to becoming more of an issue. Ive had a few devices struggle with Matter/Thread and i think it could be a break between icloud/ios but cant be 100% certain

Is your iPhone connected to the same subnet on your home network as your ST hub?

It is. The problem does seem to be this iCloud add piece. I managed to use Alexa to add the device to the thread network running on my aeotec hub and all my other devices can see it. Just can’t get it into the smart things ui due to this crazy iCloud issue.

Do you have multiple WiFi access points, are you sure you aren’t on a guest network with client isolation or similar? I’m guessing the answer must be no otherwise I don’t imagine ST would work at all.
I’m asking because before I had SmartThings I used the original IKEA tradfri gateway and had multiple access points and found erratic behaviour which disappeared when I changed access point (eg app couldn’t find gateway on one ap but could on another ap).
I’ve since changed to a proper mesh Wi-Fi and st, and haven’t had that issue.

This is a confirmed apple issue which will be addressed in ios 18.4 apparently.
Using an older device also seems to work
