I would love to see SmartThings support acting as a Matter Bridge, similar to what the SONOFF iHost Smart Home Hub (Bridge Ultra) already offers.
This feature would allow SmartThings devices, automations, and virtual devices to be exposed to other Matter ecosystems such as Apple Home, Google Home, Home Assistant, Alexa, and others.
SmartThings is already one of the most complete smart home platforms, but it is currently limited to importing Matter devices rather than sharing its own ecosystem through Matter.
Some benefits of Matter Bridge support would be:
Better interoperability between smart home platforms.
Easier migration between ecosystems.
Ability to expose virtual devices and automations to other Matter controllers.
Increased value for SmartThings hubs without requiring cloud integrations.
A more open ecosystem that aligns with Matter’s goals.
Many users already rely on Home Assistant or third-party bridges just to expose SmartThings devices to other platforms. Native Matter Bridge support would provide a much cleaner, faster, and more reliable solution.
I hope the SmartThings team considers adding this feature in a future update. I believe it would make SmartThings an even stronger platform for advanced users while remaining simple for everyone else.
Thank you!
That would be a great feature.
But why would Samsung do it when they want to charge us $5 per month to the the API (cloud) to do the same thing.
If things continue like this, soon it would be easier to have another hub or open solution and add it via Matter to Samsung.
That is possible, add matter Hubs from other brands to ST…
What is not possible, is ST make Matter Bridge of the Samsung products and others to conect to another platforms…
Samsung might like the idea of SmartThings hubs acting as Matter Bridges if it made their consumer products more attractive to buyers (though probably only for future products). However I would have thought that it might be better for them to focus their efforts on having their products run Matter natively (we seem to have moved on from the common appliance integrations announced in the past that never came to everything).
While seemingly good for Samsung, a consequence might be that SmartThings would cease to be a unique selling point for Samsung products, just one of a number of competing platforms. Perhaps Samsung will then be looking at SmartThings differently.
I don’t see any incentive for SmartThings in having their hubs being Matter Bridges. They don’t even sell the hubs themselves, let alone have any devices of their own to promote. I certainly can’t see them wanting to do it for free.
Update: Rewrite to hopefully better represent what I was trying to say.
I have to agree with your words… Nothing else to say ![]()
We have to wait for the future, I want home appliances with Matter but is difficult to find or don’t exist… Maybe I will stick with Samsung anyway to the new house, I don’t see better in Europe for real
