Zooz ZEN22 2.0 z-wave plus dimmer switch- initial review

No. Both neutrals to the neutral.

IT looks like you have a neutral and a line coming from the same wire nut though?

oh, tried to show undoing it from that nut and connecting to neutral

Ok! So add a line wire from here to the switch

Add a neutral wire to the bundle and connect to neutral on switch

This is the load

And this is the traveller

Does that all look right? Little confused as to why I’m having to create a new wire bringing LINE to switch but I’ll go with it if this is what you’re suggestion is

correct. and cap the black wire in the bundle going to the other switch on both ends.

Ok! So progress! Got it to work! Now only thing is, I put the multimeter on the red wire and ground of the dumb switch while the lights were turned off, and this completed the circuit or something and turned them on! Both switches are grounded properly. Is this okay?

Just tested the same thing with another three way switch in my house and it did not turn those lights on as the others did. Something can’t be right

I think this is normal. This is speculation, but I believe the Zooz works by passing a current from the traveler to the neutral over the dumb switch. When it detects a state change it turns the main on/off. So do both the main and the dumb switch work?

Yes everything works as it should. It just seemed slightly disturbing that testing the one screw and ground resulted in the flow of electricity and the lights powering on, even more so when I tested a different three way circuit and the results weren’t replicated. It just seemed like this might be some sort of bad grounding, or what people warn against using grounds as neutrals or something. I really don’t know, just weary of putting everything back in the box if there’s a chance I could electrify something unknowingly with the current setup…

Button it back up and grab a beer! :beers: You bridging the traveler to ground would indeed show current if the Zooz switch is providing it. In the normal scenario that power would be routed to the neutral, not ground.

Thanks a lot for all your help, couldn’t have done it without you. Ordered a couple more switches today. It’s too bad we’re not able to customize the fade on and offs, min and max levels etc…but still good price for the switches!

I can turn off the light using the dumb switch but the app shows the switch as ‘on’. The app only shows off status when using the zoozv2 switch.

@TheSmartestHouse
Is this normal operating behavior or i didn’t install it correctly?

What would happen if I installed the zoozv2 switch on the side were the dumb switch should be?

Mine is almost instantaneous. I actually made a video for another thread when they asked

So to confirm, if you use the dumb switch the app actually changes to on/off and the light turns on/off accordingly ?

You should be able to see status updated instantly when using both the Zooz and the dumb switch manually. It’s possible that this is a wiring issue. It’s best to send images of the wiring (close-up of what’s in the box and connections to the switches) to our support for review: https://www.thesmartesthouse.com/pages/contact-us

I just replicated what we did on those switches onto another set in the bedroom, everything works fine but unlike the first setup, in the bedroom, the black unused wire in each box still shows having a current (tester lights up). Is it safe/normal/expected to cap a live wire off like this and stuff it back in the box? Don’t understand why it says is live, yet it tried to use it as my LINE and nothing worked until I removed it and tied into an apparent actual feed…

It shouldn’t have current. PM me the wiring diagram and we can troubleshoot.

Thanks for the quick response Jimmy, my multimeter battery died so all I had was my voltage detector, ran out and got a new battery, and all is good, no current in black wires, voltage tester must have been picking nearby wires or something

We received the toggle dimmers a little earlier and they’re already available here:

Love it. Just ordered me a set of two. Will go great instead of the dumb GE w/add-on switch!

Do you guys think double tap custom handler can be accomplished for this unit? The slave box is 2 gang but with 4 switches and I need all of them so I am limited to that Zooz dimmer (I don’t want the Aeon 4 touch, not a fan of touch panels).
