Xiaomi yi WiFi camera

You can add RTSP streams as cameras to ST through pstuart’s Generic Video Camera SmartApp/DeviceHandler. I did this with the Yi Home - it works great for live viewing, but ST’s native recording functionality does not work (which I now understand is true for most 3rd party cameras).

That, I did not know. Thanks for the info. Good to know.

So does the Yi home app still work(The wife uses that) after the hack?

It should as long as you changed with the correct firmware. I use the Yi Home app on Android but MI home apps on IOS

Mine does not work after the hack. It seems like after a power cycle, I have to reconnect using the app, but then the app gives an error. At that point I can view the RTSP stream. Any thoughts on what could be causing this? I can’t figure it out.

I think because you are either not updating the firmware correctly or it’s the wrong one. How about look in your router to see if the camera connected to it. You can then use that connected ip without using the app.

Actually got it working. The whole thing was being held up because the ntp URL that I was using was wrong. Somehow that through off the entire process. Go figure.

Now the real tough stuff. Any advice on setting up Blue Iris? That looks pretty complex.

My cameras are the US version…anyone want to chime in with some advice before I dive into this “project”?

I already have RTSP and FTP access of my yi cctv.
What kind of integration can we do with smartthings ecosystem ?

I have the us version and im trying to figure out how to get RTSP support without killing the cloud functionality. anyone have ideas?

Sorry for being naive with this, I’m planning to buy this US ver yi cam, and have few queries:

  1. Can multiple users access the cam at the same time with or without their app?

  2. Why would we want to hack the US firmware? What / how r u guys using the rstp stream post hack?

Thanks in advance.

Please some one can confirm if US version can work with ST?

By default these cameras do not have RTSP functionality. These means that only the official Apps for the camera can be used to view the feeds. However by using a non official firmware on the camera’s RTSP functionality is available. Whilst ST doesn’t provide options to view Camera feeds, as noted above by @nxsfan, @pstuart created a Device Type and Smart App that enable RTSP video feeds to be viewable in ST. The thread for this is here [RELEASE] Generic Video Camera DeviceType, Yes, Live Video Streaming

The link to the modified firmware was given by @Navat604 above (http://xiaoyi.querex.be/firmwares/)

Please be aware of three things with this camera:-

  • There is an International Version and a Chinese version. They operate differently. Here is a link to help identity which version you have.

  • If you modify the firmware from the above site or other location, unless you take apart the code you really dont know if anyone has put something unsavoury in there. We have all heard the stories of camera feeds available on the web.

  • The last time I checked there was no option to secure your camera feed in terms of a Username and Password. For me this was the deal breaker and as such I don’t use the RTSP feature any more.

Also if you encounter the issue of your camera can not be used outside of China (for those not on the international version) this link may help overcome the issue https://diy.2pmc.net/solved-xiaomi-xiao-yi-ant-home-camera-can-used-china/

Hope the above is of some help.

@KellyDarren Thank for a detailed explanation.

I bought two US ver cameras from Amazon, but would be able to experiment with them next month when it reaches me.

I would primarily want the cameras to record on the sdcard upon motion detection and send me push messages. I think this is available with the stock firmware.

I would also love to trigger events with smartthings based on motion detection by the camera, I’m not sure if this is available with the custom firmware ? If it is not, I can maybe hook a cheap xiaomi motion sensor on the door. But if I go with the custom firmware, and get the RTSP feed (on maybe smart tiles), can I use a 3rd party app and still achieve my primary requirement as mentioned above. I’m okay to let go of cloud functionality if it emails me motion videos.

Thanks.

I don’t care that much about viewing the feed from the ST app. What I’d
really like is the ability to automate the activity-based alerts on the
camera based on ST presence. Scan for activity when in away mode, turn
function off when I’m home.

I suppose that’s probably a little too complicated, and may not even be
possible.

Record on the SD and send notification alerts is all part of the original FW and the associated app.

AFAIK trigger event with ST based on motion, is not possible as there is no interface between ST and the camera. There is an ongoing thread about Xiamoi Motion Sensors currently (at the moment they are working with ST, they were not previously, however they may have an affect on your mesh network). All the most uptodate issue, satification and hassle is all documented over on this thread Xiaomi Zigbee Door/Window Sensor, Motion Sensor, & Smart Button Device Type [beta]

If you go with the custom firmware the original app will still provide you with your primary requirements. (I say this based on I think the L & M custom firmware versions). Later versions something may have changed, which I’m unaware of.

@drmcclin this is not achievable probably in a satisfactory manner due to no intregration between the camera and ST.

I use the word satisfactory above, as it depends on your actual needs - high security forget about, however a simple work around is basically put a ST capable plug on the end of the cameras power line and then when your at home power it off with a CORE rule or whatever and when away power it on

I have mostly the Chinese version and have them going to Blue Iris for recording and motion trigger from camera to blue Iris to ST. I don’t use SD recording.

I have US version, installed FW 1.8.6.1B, set up by Android app 2.20.2.7_20170110 but on last step I have problem.

But the camera work, I can see by VLC and Smartthings.

The problem is here when I power off I need to make set up again on camera.

Some use this FW? I need to use other FW?

I think you will get this problem when you don’t do the correct steps for changing the firmware. I haven’t done this for a while but I remember the same problem until I loaded the firmware correctly.
