Everything seemed to install correctly, and I can open it from SmartThings app, but I can’t close it from the app. Also, the Garage shortcut I created always reports as “open”. Any ideas? Thanks in advance.
I got everything installed correctly, but when trying to set up an automated alert (GE Link bulb turns on) when my gate is open, there is significant lag. Do I need to reduce the polling time? If so, how do I do this?
Thanks.
There is a lag due to the polling, but you can reduce/eliminate it with a supplemental sensor, the sensor will force the system to do an refresh/update as soon as it is triggered, there is an option on the config menu to add it. You can also set the lights to just run off the supplemental sensor to bypass all the polling, I also have my security (SHM) alram running off this snesor.
I use a Ecolink Z-Wave Wireless Tilt Sensor - ECO-TILT-US which you can usually find for $25-$29. Easy mounting to the top back of the door…
Makes sense to just run it off the sensor if I need to add one anyway. Thanks for the info.
I have had the MyQ for a year now and am looking to add IFTTT and/or other integration to allow departure and arrival opening. Do you need the ST hub to make this work? my understanding is that it communicates from the ST app to MyQ to your MyQ gateway to open/close your door. Is that correct or will I need to get a hub?
Short answer - yes, I think you’ll need a hub. The app can’t really control anything without the hub.
As far as I know, IFTTT does not directly integrate with MyQ. The MyQ/IFTTT recipes are based on MyQ sending an email notification to your GMail address. This works for things being triggered by opening the gate, but not in reverse because IFTTT can’t directly control the opening/closing of the gate. So you need a middle man - like the ST hub to communicate with MyQ.
I just got my ST hub a couple of weeks ago, and it took me a little bit of work to get the MyQ working with it since the integration isn’t officially “approved” yet. But there is a direct IFTTT integration with ST, and the recipe for opening when you get close is already built - https://ifttt.com/recipes/282644-when-i-get-close-to-home-open-my-myq-garage-via-smartthings.
Hey everyone…after my myriad of questions when I first started with this I feel like I am gaining knowledge everyday. Here is my latest predicament. I have added an Iris open/closed sensor and tried to use it to refresh the door as was suggested to increase recognition time of the open/closed. I have set it in the myQ smart app that I installed of Jason’s and it is not refreshing my door that was created through Jason’s app but yet the open/closed sensor is working and seeing that the door is open or closed. I haven’t updated my app to the latest version but should that matter? any suggestions?
Weirdest thing…right after I posted this I went back into the MYQ smartapp and realized that my other door wasn’t checked…mainly because I was testing one at a time. I checked it and then attempted to open and close my door and voila…the smartthings app recognized almost immediately that the door was closed. So interesting that all doors have to be selected for the refresh to work. I am not sure if this makes sense to any of you but I will keep a watch on it for the next few days and report back.
Jason - is there a reason to update to the latest code if everything is working?
The updates I have for the latest codes are for minor bugs. There should not be any reason to update if you don’t have any problems
Thanks for the response and all your efforts!
So…open/closed sensors are not forcing st to see the door is open or closed…any suggestions on what I could be doing wrong?
Well. Here’s the issue I dealt with. I put my sensors so they are detected when closed. For me, the problem was, I would open the door, the sensors would trigger a refresh and myQ would say, “Opening”. Until the next poll interval, it will not see open. Close worked all the time, because by the time the refresh hit for the sensors closing, my! saw the door as closed.
I was able to work around this because my sensors are tied to an Arduino where I’m using the ST_Anything library which allows you to require seeing a stat change for X times in a row before reporting, and I played until I got an X that was long enough for the door to open.
Barring that, you could consider putting the main sensor on the door and having a magnet on both open and close. That would cause a refresh to trigger twice for each door event.
@copyninja, can this be handled in the ST code? Could you add a pref showing whether the sensor is on open or close and another pref for the delay in seconds we want to wait (when moving away from the sensor) before doing the refresh?
Thanks.

Interesting because after reading through the thread that is exactly why I bought the sensors. I will wait to see what Jason says before I return them.
Thanks for the feedback!

Hi Jason
thanks for your excellent work.
I question regarding Echo. I cannot see any error in the logs.
Any advice?
“Alexa open garage door”--------Garage door opens
“Alexa close the garage door”------NOTHING HAPPENS.
“Alexa Turn off Garage door” —NOTHING HAPPENS.
“Alexa open Garage door”------Garage door CLOSES.
===================================================
I always say “Alexa, OPEN the garage door” whether to open or close it. I could never get the Amazon Echo to close the garage door with the words “close”, “turn off”, etc. A little odd, but after awhile you get used to it.
Jason, after some hardware problems with my Liftmaster equipment I’ve ended up with four different copies of my garage. Can’t delete the things because of the MyQ connect smart app. Can’t delete your smart app through the app, “an unexpected error occurred” how can I delete the smart app to reinstall a fresh version?
Hey new user here. I’m having trouble getting the lights to update their status. Garage door works fine especially after adding tilt sensor. And control of the lights work fine. Their status just won’t update. They maintain the same “on” status regardless of their actual state. Refresh doesn’t work. I’ve searched through this thread for a couple of days. Haven’t read every single post though. Is this a known issue? I have also tried removing and reinstalling the device types and smartapp.
@copyninja I have everything working right on the main garage of my house. I also have two commercial doors hooked up to myq. I can add the three residential doors but the commercial doors don’t show up in the app. Any help here would be appreciated
I too tried “close” and “turn off” but those didn’t work. However, I am able to get mine to close (Liftmaster MyQ Garage Door) through Echo by saying “Alexa, Toggle the Garage Door” It is the only way that I have been able to get it to close.
Could you PM me on this? I would need to add the commercial door ID’s to the app for it to show.
