I did my v2 setup using an Android phone, but still am able to mostly use my Windows Phone now to control things. The main problem I’m seeing is I have to double- or triple-press the back button before the SmartThings app goes back to the previous page.
I did ask support. We will get a updated app. However I think they have bigger fish to fry right now. Like the ability to add a new user. But hopefully this year
I’m assuming at this point it would be a Windows 10 universal app. Would be nice to be able to use it on PC, tablet, and (hopefully) Xbox One.
Yes. I hope it comes just in time for the new Lumia 950 XL.
This app is desperately in need of an update. It’s not even that the new design is needed, but half the SmartApps I try don’t configure properly from the Windows Phone app. I am still forced to set up everything on my Android backup phone, even though my Lumia is what I use for control of ST (and just for daily use as well).
How can you get the device names to show on the WP8 app?.
I have many devices and they all appear the same with no labels. What am I missing?
I would also vote for some updates!
How did you get a live tile to work? I have looked around the app and don’t see any options to pin anything other than the app itself. I would love to be able to pin the dashboard to my start menu to get real time updates. Or pin specific devices to control them. Or pin modes…pretty much pin anything I guess! I would create a ST folder and have a bunch of quick status/actions available versus having to open the app.
And I also get a lot of errors when trying to set things up, so I end up using my wifes iPhone for the setup.
I can not find where to setup proximity sensing anywhere in this app. The UI is horrible and this Win Phone app is just a hot mess! I ended up having to set my devices up using an android tablet.
This is my biggest frustration - no device names. I click Kitchen and then see 3 lights but have to try them to figure them out.
Looks like there’s a bug-fix update… except it doesn’t even fix the most basic problem where you have to double press the back button and cross your fingers that it’ll actually bring you back from a thing’s page to the room page, or from the rooms page to the main page, etc.
I hate to say it, but does the person/team who is developing this app actually try to use it?
Please remember, iPhone is the Aircraft Carrier, Android is the Destroyer, and the Windows phone is a… rowboat.
Apps are released and tested based on market share of app BUYERS.
I love my ST, but the only thing the Android app is ‘destroying’ right now is a positive user experience…
Right, but if you’re developing an app, you have to do a cursory check to make sure that it works. You don’t just throw code together and release it without knowing that it works. I’m not saying that these developers need to be using Windows Phone full time, but you would expect them to have at least tried the app once. When basic navigation doesn’t work, when nothing is labelled, etc. it feels like nobody on the development team has ever even opened the app, let alone tested it.
In all fairness, to follow your analogy, the Windows ecosystem is the entire Naval Fleet.
Sure, Windows Phone is a small slice of the pie, but with the advent of Universal Apps for Windows, it would seem by your own argument that a decent Windows app for phone/tablet/laptop/PC/Xbox would be the way to go.
I totally agree.
I was excited to see the update this morning, and expected to see an experience similar to what is already in place for iOS…boy was I dissapointed!
It does seem faster, and less prone to random errors, but having to press the back button multiple times in hopes that it brings you back one page versus closing the app is super annoying.
And how about showing the device names in “things” with status in a nice table like you do for Android and iOS? Pretty Please???
I think the new Windows Phone app is much more on par with the Android version. They’ve managed to recreate the bug that crashes the app randomly it seems, in the latest version. I don’t recall that happening previously but sometimes in the middle of creating a rule it’ll just kick me out to the Start screen…doesn’t even tell me it crashed like it does on my Android tablet…
One More Bump for a Windows Universal App, please!
Regretting buying a Hub V2 and set of Samsung Smart Cams that I can’t even view through the Windows Phone app.
All of this talk of fancy BMW, TV, and refrigerator integration, but no word on a new Windows app.
Just an FYI - I have the android app and haven’t been able to use my Dlink 2330-L camera with ST in weeks. Like many other things it’s not working correctly (although it works with the D-Link app).
Huge disappointment as integration with ST is why I bought that model in the first place.
