So in all the confusion I’m just wondering what will work and what won’t in terms of zigbee devices. @JDRoberts directed me to a list of items that had drivers and the below isnt on there. However in my simple mind, if something works on the ZigBee protocol we should be able to add it to the hub and then find/alter a handler to suit?
So my question, will the below work? I want to use it for controlling lighting. Dimming etc
Unfortunately, Tuya uses a lot of proprietary code (different code for different models), so many Tuya devices do NOT work out of the box with other brands’ zigbee hubs. This was true for Groovy DTHs, and it’s true for Edge Drivers. And because of firmware changes sometimes even devices with the same model number use different proprietary code, requiring different Edge Drivers. so it may just be a matter of trial and error to see whether a specific device will work with SmartThings or not.
You can find much discussion of this in the forum. @ygerlovin has done SOME edge drivers that work with SOME Tuya devices: you might start with that thread.
It’s not impossible to get most Tuya Zigbee devices to work with ST: it just requires extra custom code that is not included in the standard drivers. But the development can be tricky, so not all developers want to do it.
As for this overall zigbee issue, see the community FAQ:
@JDRoberts and @barron SmartKnob is working. I have SmartKnob for around 3 months on edge driver. Driver is created by @erickv.
Just search for SmartKnob driver. I’ll try to find link
Because of the forum format, shorter, more specific threads tend to be more useful to people as the years go by. Otherwise people have to read through two or 300 posts that don’t apply to what they’re looking for to get the information they need.
You’ll also find that threads with more specific titles actually tend to get more activity. This is a very busy forum and people have so many different setups that many people only read the threads that they feel are most likely to apply to them.
I just bought one and I added it using the edge driver with no problems. Although every time I put the battery door back on it would lose connection. It took me a few minutes to diagnose that the magnet was lifting the battery and the little pad on battery door was not sufficient to maintain battery contact. After adding a piece of foam tape I was able to get it working properly.
I do have a little lost connection cloud on the device. Does anybody else have this? I don’t know if this is going to be an issue or not.
