Updates to the SmartThings Platform

True, but if you read the more current posts in that thread you’ll see that he’s been posting there all along, including in the last couple of days.

Funny, I did not realize this… probably because you have to pull the screen down to find it. I’m fine with that, now that I know it’s there.

I currently use Life360 for presence as it provides tighter geo-fencing than the normal cell presence. Is that going to go away with discontinuing the Classic ST app? While I see the Life360 “people” in the new ST app, I don’t see any way to add any new users since there is no Life360 smartapp available.

I just went into the IDE and created a new Simulated Alexa Switch in an attempt to control one of my Samsung TVs in a SmartThings automation. The switch did work… 2 times… and then it just stopped working.

Of course, if Samsung SmartThings could control my Samsung TV, I wouldn’t even need a Firestick AND an Simulated Alexa Switch to do it. But, I digress. :woman_shrugging:

I am using Life360 in the new app and it has worked well for me over the past 6 months.

Life360 is listed under Linked Services

  1. Touch (3) bars at top left

  2. Touch gear icon at top right

  3. Pull down to find Linked Services

  4. If you have linked your SmartThings account in Life360, you will see Life360 in the list. New users are added through the Life360 phone app and then Smartthings grabs them from there. If you don’t see it, I’d suggest unlinking and relinking SmartThings in the Life360 phone app.

The only problem with life350 - there is no way to add the life360 smartapp without the Classic app.

It is very possible that I originally set it up in the classic app. I feel like I had to finagle so many things to get my stuff working, it’s really hard to remember how I did anything anymore. :stuck_out_tongue_closed_eyes:

Alexa has native skills to control some devices that I also have added to ST… like, Hue, Honeywell thermostat… now I have dups & Alexa refuses to cooperate because “multiple devices”… yikes.

I did the migration and working through issues now. I have a lot of Inovelli Red Series switches and dimmers with automations through the SmartLighting app (ie 2 taps up do X, 3 taps up do Y, etc.). When I try to access these automations in the new app, I get an error stating “Something went wrong. Please try to install the SmartApp again.” I have over 70 automations here, does this mean they would all be deleted and I have to recreate them? If I try to add a new automation for the Inovelli switches, I get stuck at a gray screen after selecting this device to trigger the automation. Are these devices no longer supported?

Yes, ST engineers are aware and trying to fix the issue. For now, don’t bother to delete them because Alexa will just keep re-adding them every time you do a Device Discovery. The thing to do is to disable each of the SmartThings ones in the Alexa app. Hopefully you don’t have too many you’ll have to do this to. I had quite a few… it was a pain… but, I survived and Alexa is behaving now.

What the heck. I had the new app on my phone in December. Got rid of it because of how slow it is. Now that I’m forced to use it, my phone is no longer compatible with the new app. ??? So now, I’m forced to go buy a new phone???

After a few updates, the new app is marginally faster than it was in December. Maybe you won’t need a new phone.

The new app will no longer install on my phone. There is a banner saying “Your device is not compatible with this app”

If you have an Android phone go to APKpure where you can sideload the May version which should work. I did it on an Android 4 phone

Will a side-loaded app receive updates?

No it will not.

For me, it’s usability. I have rooms with multiple can lights and shades and groups for sections of the room (front and back cans, upper and lower shades). In Google Assistant I only want to expose the groups. If each light is available, the assistant will get confused about what I want to do.

I also have direct cloud to cloud integrations to Google and ST (Nest, Rain Machine, Arlo, Harmony). For these I want Google to control the device directly, not through ST.

Thanks. I tried the “previously installed apps”, but I still get the red banner stating “Your device is not compatible with this version”.
