“For security, you can’t access SmartThings on a device that’s been rooted or changed in an unauthorized way.”
This stated a couple of days ago. My Pixel 7 Pro phone is not rooted, developer mode is not enabled. I was able to delete the app and reinstall but that lasted for about a day. Then the above message shows up again. Anyone else with this issue? Suggestions to resolve it? TIA.
I have the same message.
I have a Pixel 6, also not rooted and double-checked with the app you suggested.
I don’t see the point of anti-root measures in such an app, it sounds dumb to me.
Thanks Samsung for making the experience of honest customers worse.
I had this problem too on a Xiaomi “Redmi Note 12 Pro 5G”, Android 14 Device and it is not rooted.
I could find the previous version 1.8.18.21 and downgraded. Now I can access the app as usual and use it as a fronted to my soundbar (which is the only thing I do with this 400MB plus bloat …)
So goodbye automatic updates in the play store, it introduces an update from October, 21 (version 1.8.21.28) which seems to cause the trouble.
This is sad to see. Smart homes still do not feel mainstream, so that leaves it in the realm of tinkerers. This is an anti-consumer practice towards those who might customize their device, aka tinkerers.
People pay hundreds to thousands of dollars for their device. I do not believe Samsung has the right to declare what a consumer does with their device as long as it does not impact Samsung’s services in a meaningful way.
I don’t believe this practice is justified for any app, let alone this one. Removing rights in the name of “security” is the language of authoritarians. Especially when no other justification is given.
I can only hope Samsung considers their core audience in the future and how their actions affect their image to them.
Same error here. Samsung S21 5G. Not rooted. Was working fine. Now tget this message all the time and can’t get into my app. Can’t update or change or stop the running routines. Please fix!
I had the same thing happen to me last week. Contacted Samsung, they said unistall app, restart phone, reinstall app. It worked… for 2 days
But, I figured it out now. I did have a rooted phone 8 years ago, but I have not rooted or modified my current Galaxy S22 Ultra in any way. However, I still have some of my old apps I used for a rooted phone on my current phone. ALL were fine EXCEPT Busybox.
After removing Busybox I have not had a problem in 8 days, even with all other root apps replaced. (Again, I have not rooted my phone but I still have the apps in case I choose to root a tablet or something in the future. )
I’m totally rooted because it’s my phone and it should be illegal to lock me out of things like this just because I want root access to MY PHONE. Installing an old APK worked, but this is basically the last straw for me and this dying platform. Nothing in my smarthome is worth giving up root access to my device, there are way too many benefits of rooting that I will never give up.
Thank you! Uninstalling BusyBox was indeed the solution for me as well. I haven’t had a rooted phone in years but BusyBox was apparently carried over during phone upgrades although I wasn’t using it.
