Hi, anyone have any idea how to connect up a tuya window contact sensor to smartthings? I can see people are having success with switches etc but can’t find anyone who has attempted a sensor.
Thanks
Steve

Try joining it via the Scan Nearby option. If it joins and shows up in the new app, it may join as a Thing. You can try changing the device Type to “SmartSense Open/Closed Sensor”.
First though, what model number contact sensor?
Is this a Wi-Fi or Zigbee device?
Could be either.

.

Although I believe the Zigbee version is also usually sold under a third-party brand name.

So as always, the first rule of home automation applies: “the model number matters.”
Hi, this is the WiFi version. Its to use on a metal garage door. I had the Zigbee Samsung equivalent but the signal could not reach my Smatthings hub consistently. I also tried a different make Zigbee sensor but it had the same issue. So I got the Wifi version and so far so good.
Thanks

If you run the Tuya integration (+, devices, Tuya) in Smartthings and they don’t show up they are likely not compatible.
You can also open the device in the Tuya or SmartLife apps and click on edit. It will show all compatible 3rd party controls. It will most likely show Google, Alexa, possibly some Chinese platforms, and possibly Smartthings.
If it is not a Smarttings compatible device there are some convoluted work arounds.
Thanks everyone for your input. Ive found a kind of solution, although its not very elegant. Bought a Tuya wifi smart plug. The idea is that using the Tuya App I will get it to turn the socket on or off when the garage door is open/closed. I can then use Smartthings directly to interrogate the socket. Fingers crossed.
If the plug integrates with Smartthings it can work. Through a WebCore piston you can link the plug to a virtual contact sensor. An Alexa simulated switch is a virtual contact sensor. The virtual contract sensor can be added to STHM.
You will need some sort of automation to refresh the status of the plug in Smartthings. Smartthings will not know the on/off status of the plug when it is operated from the Tuya end unless it’s status is updated. I use a simple WebCore piston to do that every 30 sec.
Did you ever get your Tuya Wi-Fi door contact connected to SmartThings?
One way to do it if you have an android phone would be to turn on alarm notifications in the SmartLife/Tuya app. Then create an IFTTT applet to link the android notification to a “Simulated Alexa Switch” in SmartThings. That would give you the contactor sensor in SmartThings to use in automations and/or STHM.
Did not work for me. I used Catchall to add the sensor since I saw activity in Live Events , and then used “SmartSense Open/Closed Sensor” as device type but not response, Model number : TY - ZDR06
Don’t know if that can help , but this was the catchall message:
