Text Notifications for sensors?

Hi, I opened the door to my garage and the garage door was open. Holy cow. Thankfully no dogs or cats ran around me to get out. So…I took a SmartThings motion sensor out of another room and put it out there and tested it. Works. I then set the wall opener to “lock” and tested that, which means remotes won’t work. But that is NOT the long term solution as when I leave, I can’t lock it. I set notifications for that to ON and that’s fairly USELESS as unless I happen to see it on my phone, I won’t know if it’s opened again. I want TEXT MESSAGES so I get DINGED.

If not, I’ll have to look into an alternative that has notifications that an action has to be taken for them to disappear.

Any ideas?! Thank you, Vicci

What country are you in? The text message options do vary from region to region.

just curious… what garage door opener do you have… brand/model?

United States and if there is an option, I can’t find it. And I’m a nerd.

Liftmaster 3255. I think someone in the 'hood has an opener that now matches this. I’m going to have to have the opener connected to a switch I can turn off; maybe need to buy one that can only be opened with an app or the keypad. Sigh.

Write a routine. In the “Then” section chose notify someone and then chose text message.

Hi, I have an automated one setup to the Motion detection notifications; which is the one that isn’t going to really do much for me. Do I disable this to do the other?
As an aside, I renamed it to garage door test vs. dining room and there is a disconnect as the old name is in the list but the new name is in the routine. Is there a time I have to wait to sync something?

You can have both notifications.

When I don’t want to miss a notification l will do a push notification, a text message to my cell number and a text message to my Google Voice number.

I think the device names should sync given some time.

I’ve worked on this but the Save after the action and the then is still gray and I cannot save my work. Sigh.
