Still cant control devices from app when hub goes offline

Hello
I am looking for recommendations to move away from smartthings.
I read some people moved to Hubitat, only to find Hubitat requires subscription for remote access.
Is there open source solution that works both locally and remotely for free?

Home Assistant.

Good Luck…

Or if you have a VPN server on your local network you could access it remotely for free.

Unless you know how to safely punch a hole outside of your LAN to the outside world, Home Assistant also requires a subscription for $65/year. It’s worth it IMO because you also get some other features like TTS, Alexa, Google Home, etc. but it’s worth mentioning.

If you’re leaving SmartThings, i’d pick between Apple Home, Homey and Home Assistant.
