Stelpro releases the first Z-Wave Plus Line-Voltage thermostat: the STZW402+ Stelpro Ki Thermostat

@BroncoCountry
Hmmm… If you haven’t contacted SmartThings support, I might be able to assist.

Which mobile client are you using? Is it the “Classic” app or the new app? If it is the new app you might have to drill down into one more menu to actually get the hub in to pairing mode after clicking “Add Device”. There is a catalog of categories at the bottom of the “Add Device” screen, go ahead and click any of the categories (maybe motion sensor) and then select any device (Fibaro motion sensor would be a good one). Does the hub go in to pairing mode then? There should be an LED on the front that will flash.

For those using Alexa and having issues controlling your Stelpro thermostat, I do have a ticket open to investigate and fix this. (I suspect I have determined the cause, but just need the engineer working on the Alexa part to prioritize the work.)

Thanks for the reply. I will try that next time I’m at the condo.

The google home app does not display the thermostat as a quick shortcut on the top.

Google, smartthings or stelpro issue?

Hi @pwsn21,

My guess would be a Google issue.

The Stelpro Thermostat is not even aware what is a Google Home.
The only thing it knows, is that it’s connected to a network.

So I actually got the Stelpros hooked into the SmartThings Wifi. If anyone is tracking “bugs,” there are only 2 choices for settings for the thermostat in a “scene,” which are temperature and mode. Making a choice in the “mode” option leads the scene to report that it can’t run. Still good enough for my purposes, but I also wish there was access to use temperature reported by the thermostat to trigger notifications, etc.

Hello, is it possible to change the heatingSetPointRange? I want don’t want anyone lower the temp lower than 18 degres

ST

Hi @shan52,

No the setpoint range is fixed to be 5 to 30°C.
If you wish to prevent tempering, please use the keypad lock option.

Hi @gouroufui,

If it’s not possible to alter the setpoint range, is it possible to add the capability of turning it off? I have 4 thermostats in a rental property, and I want to be able to turn off the heat in the bedrooms while the unit is unoccupied (there is no plumbing in these rooms), but have the kitchen and bathroom thermostats stay on.

At this point, we are holding off on replacing the bedroom thermostats with the Stelpro’s until we have the ability to either set them below 41 or turn them off.

Hi Jeff,

No, the Z-Wave thermostat does not have the Off mode option.
It is not something that Stelpro wishes to add either.

This is a decision the company made to insure there won’t be any water pipe freezing.

However, the Stelpro Ki Zigbee thermostat (STZB402+) does have an Off mode, this is the only model that Stelpro offers that feature.

Thanks J-F! I just ordered one to test it out. Appreciate the quick response!

@dckirker do you have any update on the Alexa integration issue? I have one device and looking to purchase another 15 to replace all the thermostats in the house, but the alexa issue is really annoying. Alexa keeps reporting “device is unresponsive” whenever I try to adjust the temperature.

Hi all,

This is to inform you that the Stelpro Ki Z-Wave thermostat is now officially supported by SmartThings.

This means you no longer need to use the device handler code found in github.

The device also works with the new SmartThings app.

There may be still some issues due to the multiple platform changes.
Feel free to report them.

Enjoy!

Since we can’t turn the thermostat OFF, the best I can do is keep switching to economy mode (pre-set to the lowest of 41F). I do this either via the SmartThings app or manually by pressing both buttons.
I would like to automate this through Smartthings, BUT there is not an option to change MODES in any smart app that I can find. The only thing I can do is lower the temp “in heating mode.”
Becomes cumbersome to then have to manually push the “up” button 30 times to raise the heat back up again. Would be much simpler to just be able to switch to normal HEAT mode from ECONOMY mode (IF I were able to have Smartthings Be able to enable MODE automation).

Hi @CP_Palmblad,

I used to be able to do something like you requested by using the Rule Machine smartapp.
But I don’t know if it’s still functional with the newest platform change.

I was able to create custom rules to change the mode to specific value.
In the Z-Wave thermostat, the Eco mode is in fact the z-wave mode called “Energy Save Heat” mode.
It’s z-wave value is 11, while the Heat mode value is 1.

So, if you can find a SmartApp letting you modify the mode of a thermostat to a specific value, you would be all set.

Hi,

My zoning smartapp called ScheduleTstatZones can automate the setting to eco or away mode using the ST hello mode and then the switch back to the current mode when back.

And, there are also many more features…

For example, you can define your rooms/zones/schedules. In each room, you can associate your room thermstat (if any). Then, you create your own virtual zones (composed of 1 to many rooms). Finally, you define your schedules (with their own day/time combination, you can even associate a ST hello mode).

In GeneralSetup of the smartapp you have the option to **set any room/zone thermostat to eco** when the thermostat is not part of your scheduled zones.

For more information about ScheduleTstatZones (look & feel, prerequisites, features, configuration, troubleshooting), refer to the ST community wiki

https://thingsthataresmart.wiki/index.php?title=ScheduleTstatZones#Look_.26_Feel

You can elect one thermostat in your home as the master, and all the ‘slave’ thermostats in your rooms will sync up with it in terms of mode and setpoints.

ScheduleTstatZones is available at my store:

Regards.

Hi All. I switched from the custom handler to the native handler and have uncovered an issue.

Voice commands to Alexa to set the temperature, ie ‘alexa, set xxx thermostat to 70 degrees’ are properly set on the device, but the reply from Alexa is ‘hmm, xxx thermostat is not responding’.

8:53:31 AM: trace setHeatingSetpoint(70.0)
8:53:36 AM: debug Parse returned [[value:70.0, unit:F, displayed:false, name:heatingSetpoint, data:[heatingSetpointRange:[41, 86]], isStateChange:false, linkText:Office Thermostat, descriptionText:Office Thermostat heating setpoint is 70.0°F]]

Any thoughts?

Thanks,
Tom

Hi @tom_sawyer,

I think @dckirker already has a ticket open on that topic.
Not sure however about the progress on that issue.

Hello @gouroufui

I was using the github driver but for some reason one of the STZW402 stopped taking commands from the Smartthings app. The app would display all the information (including the log) as if the commands were working but when looking at the thermostat that was not the case.

I came here and saw you switched to native support. That’s great so I switched all thermostats to use the native driver but now none of them will display outside temperature even though they all have the correct Postal Code (Canada) in the settings.

When I check smartthings console I only see “outsideTemp” under “Current States” if I go back to the old github driver. When I use the native driver that value disappears, even if the ZipCode field is still in the smartthings app.

Any idea of what I’m doing wrong?

Thanks!

Hi @brunor78,

This is something that SmartThings and I are aware of.
For some reason SmartThings changed their weather provider and the associated weather API.

To my displeasure, it seems that the weather in Canada is not supported by the new API.

@dkirker, could you please share more details on the new weather API?
