Samsung washers normally only work through the Samsung cloud. Many of them also accept a local session on your LAN (OCF over CoAP-DTLS). The Stoeckie Bridge now uses that, so the washer works in SmartThings without the cloud. Experimental: status works here, start from SmartThings still has to be tested with a real wash.
What you get
- On and off, running, paused or stopped, and the cycle phase (wash, rinse, spin, finish)
- Remaining time and progress
- Remote control on or off (start from SmartThings needs remote control switched on at the washer)
- Choose a course from the courses your washer reports, then start, pause and stop
- Everything works in routines, e.g. washer finished > notification
How it works
- The bridge (Windows or Docker, the same one as for AEG, FGLair, Home Connect and others) talks to the washer directly with the smartthings-local library (MIT). The Edge driver on the hub reads the bridge over your LAN.
- The bridge makes its own client certificate once; it never leaves the bridge folder.
Install
- Install the bridge and driver: GitHub - Stoeckie/smartthings-stoeckie-bridge: Stoeckie Bridge: cloud appliances (AEG/Electrolux, Fujitsu FGLair, Škoda, iRobot favorites) in SmartThings. Bridge for Windows or Docker plus Edge driver · GitHub (Windows: install.bat, Docker:
docker compose up -d --build) - Give the washer a fixed IP in your router
- Put
samsung\appliances.jsonnext to config.json:[{"host": "192.168.1.60", "type": "washer", "name": "Washer"}] - Restart the bridge. Optional check first:
python stoeckie_bridge.py --samsung-probe 192.168.1.60(read only)
Notes
- Firmware: the washer firmware answers slowly under load, so the bridge reads the main state every 4 s and the rest less often.
- Washer switched off: it usually turns its wifi off too, and shows as offline until it is switched on again.
- Newest models: the newest laundry generation refuses this kind of session; see the compatibility notes of smartthings-local.
- Security: these washers accept any client on the LAN that uses the published client id, so keep them on a separate IoT network if you can. That was already the case before; the bridge only uses it.
Running here with a Samsung WW series washer (2023 firmware). Feedback welcome, especially which models work.
