After running into the grandfathered PATs not actually being grandfathered and both of my RPis running node-red lost the ability to access devices via ST I looked at Samsung’s way of solving the issue. It looked like a lot of work and didn’t meet my needs. Plus, there was no programmatic way to refresh the access token in node-red. I started asking around and most advice was to just switch to Home Assistant. After researching HA it seemed like a good idea but I’d loose remote access unless I signed up for HA Cloud. However, HA Cloud only handles one location per account so it would require 2 accounts and I’d have to switch between them in the app by logging off and on each time. I mentioned this to a friend who suggested using ZeroTier. Switching from ST to HA was very easy and only took about a hour plus it fixed a few issues ST wasn’t fixing and provided a lot more capability. Installing ZT and configuring it took about 30 minutes and now I have remote access to my RPi to control devices in my house.
