Hello, fellows.
We have completed building new extension and the building inspector requested to replace all old battery operated smoke alarms to one that conform to the newest building regulations, although these alarms still in the “old” part of the house. Was looking to replace these alarms with the “smart ones”, but it would be quite expensive (~£400). Found that it would much cheaper to purchase wired interconnected smoke alarms and get a smoke alarm sound detector. Searching through the old posts found one: Ecolink smoke/co alarm sound detector, but it looks like it is not possible to buy them anymore (at least in the UK). Could anyone recommend a smoke alarm sound detector, please?
Many thanks in advance,
Rustam.
I bought this for my interconnected smoke alarms. It detects the electrical signal not the siren. It also includes a relay you can use independently of the signal detector.

FYI,
I also bought this. There is currently an issue with some where it goes offline from the hub in about a week from when it is connexted. They are supposedly working on a firmware fix.
Since you are in the UK, you will not be able to use an acoustic sensor designed for use in the US. The sound patterns are somewhat different.
Also, if it is a zwave device, the zwave frequencies are different.
So you will need to find one specifically designed for use in the UK. (that’s also probably going to be necessary to pass the building inspection.)
Unfortunately, I am not aware of any inexpensive acoustic monitor sensors currently available for the UK market.
For example, ring security in the US sells both a glass break sensor and a smoke alarm listener.
But in the UK, they only offer the glass break sensor. And the Ring smoke alarm listener available for the US does not detect UK alarms.
However, as others have said, a smart signal detector which you can wire in to the connected dumb alarm and just detects the electrical pulse should work. We’ve definitely had other UK members use them in the past, although that was just for private homes and it sounds like yours is a commercial project?
I also have one of these but I have not had any issues.
Hello,
Thank you for reply, I check this sensor and realised it would not work for me because the smoke alarms would be interconnected wireless, so it would be not possible to wire this sensor. Anyway, good idea, but not for me unfortunately.
Best regards,
Rustam.
Thank you for the reply. Yes, somehow the UK has a very limited choice. I have read that Amazon echo could be used for break-in and fire alarm detection, but this feature is not available in the UK. So I have to use either Google Nest smoke alarms or POPP smoke detector with alarm, which will cost me 3-4 times more than buying some “dumb” smoke detectors and fire alarm sound sensor
Best regards,
Rustam.
