No dashboards should have disappeared, but, unfortunately, under the Blue edition of “SmartTiles (Connect)” you can no longer create new child dashboards. I guess you could say Blue is now sterile.
Man…I am kicking myself so hard right now. The other day I accidentally removed SmartTiles from my account and re-added it right away. I originally installed it months and months ago. Now I’m stuck on green edition! -___- lol. Oh well. Guess I gotta wait for 5.8. Sucks being impatient.
There is no point to Blue if you do not have existing Dashboards. We recommend “Remove”.
v5.8 has very minimal new features. We appreciate that existing Blue edition users are our final “Beta” testing ground before we upgrade the published “green” edition. The publication timeline is largely dependent on the speed of SmartThings; but you’re not missing much.
What’s the ETA on v6? I really need the new login features because this forced login step is killing my dashboard that’s mounted on the wall at home
No one else uses it anymore since there’s the additional login step. Yes, I can save the login info on the tablet but if that’s what I’m doing to get around the issue, isn’t that the same as not having a login requirement at all?
People in my house have resorted to using physical switches(!) and I end up opening the ST app to control devices, which is horrible. I understand it’s not your fault at all but this sucks
Don’t get me wrong, I like the other features that were pushed out, especially the Tools tile and the SmartWeather refresh.
So once again, what is the ETA on v6? Thanks for the continued efforts.
I’ve read most of the posts in this thread. I understand (I guess) why ST is requiring this. But I have to say, this change makes this app completely useless for my main use case. I just picked up a new Android tablet 3 weeks ago to use for this (I had given up before because the cheap tablets I had purchased just couldn’t handle it).
Literally, as I am configuring my new dashboard, this change drops. I set it up to work with Oauth and two days later it didn’t work.
I’m not blaming Alex and Terry, I’m grateful they are trying to work within the rules that ST is requiring, but I just don’t understand why the changes are being forced.
I know not to share my Oauth information publicly. As far as it being intercepted in e-mail, as it stands right now, people that were sharing the Oauth keys in e-mail now have to send the L/P to whoever they want to allow to use the dashboard, seems like that is just as bad, if not worse.
I’ve stopped working on the revival of my dashboard, because this just isn’t a viable solution.
I know a lot of these complaints and arguments have already been made, but I felt I needed to add my voice to the opinion that, once again, ST is solving the wrong problem.
Rule Machine is creating issues? Blame the developer, forcing him to abandon the platform.
Oauth is insecure if it is used carelessly? Break apps regardless of the impact causing devs to spend time dealing with that, rather than adding new features or working on bugs.
I know ST is posting weekly updates with vague references (including graphs with no scale to tell how impactful the change actually is) about the “improvements” they are making, but I still get SHM alerts for doors that have been open for five minutes or locks that have been unlocked for five minutes that the ST app recent screen CLEARLY show were closed or locked immediately after they were opened or unlocked.
And then, I get repeating open or unlocked for five minutes over and over (like when I am doing yard work) even though they were only left open once. (Not always, because at least if it was always, you could just say, “Well, that’s how it works…”)
But, someone heard about someone who knew someone that might have published his Oauth key and that person might have had his lights turned on when he didn’t want to, so let’s make everyone stand on their head, maybe they’ll forget how much the actual platform sucks if we keep distracting them with this other crap.

Sorry; we are not give out an ETA yet… Per this post:[quote=“tgauchat, post:270, topic:40905”]
-
It’s still too soon for us to set a date, as we really, really, really, don’t want a thread like the SmartThings V2 Hub thread that had 1000 “are we there yet?” posts in it.
-
Even for Beta, we are dependent on SmartThings to publish the SmartApp used by V6. We’ve been working with @slagle and @jodyalbritton closely to ensure they won’t see any surprises in the submitted code.
-
There will be at last 2 rounds of Beta and feedback sessions, each by invitation only. Priority for invites will be primarily based on donors and the donation amount (no suggested amount yet), though we reserve the right to set and change any arbitrary beta participation criteria at any time.
Most of all… Thank’s so much for your enthusiasm … and patience. Building V6 has been a lot of work and, of course, taking longer than hoped, but the results are incredible (i.e., Alex doing the work, and me saying… wow!! ![]()
). To me, it is sooooo good that I don’t want any unforeseen bugs or security issues slipping in and tainting this jewel, so the Beta process is incredibly important.

A “Positive” thing I have noted with the new log-in step, is that now you can have the IDE open and SmartTiles open in the same browser. The previous version you needed to use a different browser or run either SmartTiles or the IDE in Private mode.
Hello,
can someone help me out with:
- How can i remove the Tools tile from the dashboard?
- I have 3 FullHD displays (1980x1080): 1 - pc monitor, 1- mobile phone and 1 tablet but the same dashboard shows different tile number horizontally; for instance on PC Monitor i get 18 tiles, on phone I get 6 and on tablet 9. is there any way to make them show the same amount of tiles on a row?
thx
I looked and looked and I don’t think there is a way to remove it. And after reading all these posts, I don’t think that you ever will as then you would not be able to change tile positions, get the launcher URL, et. al.
My solution is to add a whole bunch of blank tiles and moving them all to just before the tools tile. Enough so that it is pushed off the screen.
thank you, i will do what you suggested, adding blank tiles until it is pushed off screen
agreed… i plan on running couple of ipad tablets around the home for convince… this would have a big impact on our ability to use smarttiles as no one at home can be bothered to login to turn on / off lights and perform other functions…
Hope this can be a user configurable item…
or you can remove with css display: none !Important;
nice…it worked! thanks!
The Zoom options native to the browser might work, but we may have pinch-zoom disabled for mobile. I’ll look into this. Personally I really dislike non-zoomable websites, but it is hard for a web app to be in both screen size responsive mode and regular mode at the same time…
So basically this is a short-term inconvenience and by v6 we will be able to set up a long-term time out and not have to worry about logging in?
We are not exactly sure yet of what the maximum session duration will be using the authentication mechanisms for V6; the difference is that with the current v5.8, the session duration is completely controlled by SmartThings and is tied to the inactive life of the IDE/API webpage. Removing this constraint will give us a lot more flexibility.
@625alex I am blown away by all the custom stuff from CSS that is posted and I would like to learn CSS beyond the cutting and pasting the work of others. Can you recommend a resource (book, website) for someone wanting to learn more about this language and where to get started?
The power of CSS is truly unlimited. There are numerous online resources to help you learn. This is one of the popular interactive reference sites CSS Tutorial
I too am blown away by creative uses of CSS that made SmartTiles go beyond what I ever imagined!
