Station hub is still (sadly) not available in EU. But If I get one from US, will it work fully in EU? Anyone outside US has any experience with it?
While waiting for somebody with actual experience, SmartThings Station should work in Europe because Zigbee uses the same frequency in both the US and Europe.
Happy to be corrected if needed.
What is this and how is this different from a V3 hub?
It is the newest smartthings hub from Samsung itself, released about a year ago. Only main difference is that it doesn’t support Z-wave. Also, newer doesn’t mean better. So if you have V3/Aeotec hub no need to replace it.
I have 2 ST hubs with Samsung TVs (one with the Thread / Zigbee dongle). However, I cannot create a hub group with these two because of the dongle. i.e Neither can be a primary hub. Could the ST station be a primary hub in this set up?
It should work, except obviously you would need a power adapter, but I’m not sure it’s legal there.
The EU and UK set transmission strength ceilings for Zigbee which are much lower than the US. Consequently devices using “boosted Zigbee“ transmission strength levels are legal in the US, but not in the UK.
I haven’t checked the specs to be sure, but to be honest, I’d be surprised if a station designed for the US market wasn’t using boosted Zigbee because it means better range and reliability. ![]()
Also, as an engineer, it wouldn’t surprise me if the station doesn’t work without boosted Zigbee: The signal strength might not be enough to deal with both the local charger and the Wi-Fi. But I don’t know anything for sure, I’m just saying it wouldn’t surprise me if that’s the reason there hasn’t been a European model. ![]()
Totally different device, introduced in 2023. Both the V3 and the station work as SmartThings hubs, but with a different look and somewhat different features.
The station can definitely be the primary hub in a multi hub set up, but I don’t know if you can add your TVs to the hub group. Hopefully someone who knows more will post.
Late but I know it works from seeing, even in hub group with UK/EU products (assuming the radio just changes settings to match the primary hub in the groups network) Amazon sells them too on the US site which ships to Europe. It’s a shame that they don’t do it for EU but yeah
