The Innovation Report: Your Quarterly SmartThings Update Newsletter

Thank you for being a part of our SmartThings community! Q2 brings exciting updates, including the launch of partner product sales on Samsung.com.

Read on for updates on our app and Hub, Developer Center enhancements, Matter support, and highlights from our growing Works with SmartThings (WWST) ecosystem.

New SmartThings App & Hub Features

Exciting news! We’ve rolled out new user experience updates.

AI Powered Routine Creation: Build automations with simple phrases, like “turn off the lights when I leave,” without manually configuring each device or setting.

Routine Scheduling and Confirmation: Delay routine actions (e.g. turn lights on at 7 AM, then start coffee maker 15 minutes later) and opt to confirm if you want to run a routine or not. For example, give confirmation before running the Goodbye routine after the door is locked.

Expanded Calm Onboarding: Our Calm Onboarding experience—which automatically detects, registers, and connects Samsung products to the App after purchase—now spans 59 countries (up from 14). Even better, select partner devices sold via Samsung websites in Korea and the UK are also eligible, with more global expansion on the way.

SmartThings on Apple Watch: iOS users can now manage their smart home directly from their Apple Watch via a new SmartThings widget.

Hub Update

Our recent SmartThings Hub release includes:

• Matter time sync support was added so that devices like door locks can get the accurate time from the hub and use it to enable additional device features like time based schedules for PIN code access.

Lots of interesting stuff, and a very well written announcement.

One tiny note: please remove the tags for hub and SmartThings. They will just confuse the forum search function.

Thank you for you kind feedback @JDRoberts.

For sure-- I just removed the tags for Hub and SmartThings.

The Apple Watch app has never worked in my main home; it always gives an error. I believe it’s due to the number of devices, as it worked in a test home with fewer devices.

Lol – that is very true @Andrew_Bartlett, we’ll have to get better about our pet user groups!

But personalization is super important so we’ll keep focusing on it.

@Patrick_Duarte sorry to hear you’re getting an error message on the Apple Watch; please reach out to our support channels with the SmartThings / Samsung website or via the App

Plleeeaaassseeee update the app so it finally recognizes the frame tv and the device using the app are on the same network. I used to love my frame tv but after the recent Samsung hack I can no longer use Smarthings in art mode to choose pictures, buy the membership. My coworker was ready to purchase a frame tv this week and I talked her out of it. Who wants a tv when every day you spend time trying to do a factory reset, unplug, plug back in, remove device, add device and still can’t use it to upload your own photos?
