SmartThings Outage - Jan 03 2018

Most stuff working now. Not sure about automations or pistons though. Device Health check shows everything unavailable despite working. Device Health can stay off

Yet you are still using it. You should team up with Jeff and go get the “winknhub”

Indeed!!!

My system is acting goofy too. Started yesterday afternoon. Mostly light switches/dimmers aren’t responding. I wonder if it’s related to a message I received about Sunset/Sunrise issues. I’m not even going to fiddle with it. This seems like one of those self-healing problems.

I thought switches and lights were supposed to be local as well, but those were not working. In fact, I thought everything that did not need smartapps was supposed to be network independent now. Otherwise what is the benefit of the battery backup if the hub still needs batteries to work.

Things appeared to work for a it at 630 (lights triggered by motion sensors worked), but now its back up to wonky performance - for me:

  • Switches and Motion sensors are on a 5-15 min delay. I would hit them, and SmartThings won’t recognize an event for 5-15 min.
  • Zwave outlet devices (I have the GE Dimmer outlets) are controllable with SmartThings app, and will also be triggered by switches (albeit with the aforementioned delay)
  • ZigBee outlet devices (I have Leviton Dimmer outlets) not responding to SmartThings app, but will be triggered by switches (albeit with the aforementioned delay)

I swear this feels like outage # 10 in the last 30 days!!! Woke up to nothing working, again!!!

My stuff has been working very well for several months. We all have different system components from each other.

Quite the opposite here. I went to bed with Z-Wave being completely broken and dead, woke up this morning to discover that Z-Wave was back to being fully functional. My hub is also on
the affected na-02 shard. Very odd coincidence if not related.

Unlike you folks, i’m Not up at 3am checking whether my ST configuration is working

(runs for cover, laughing)

Anyway, my system worked at 10pm. When I went to bed at 11p, it all still worked. When I woke this morning at 6am, the Xmas light automations had run successfully and the tree was on.

So they changed something in the cloud. When I went to log in to the IDE, I got a 404 page not found error. I usually go directly to the address: https://account.smartthings.com/st-login. Since I saw that others could log in, I backed out to the https://account.smartthings.com address. I noticed once I chose smartthings for the login type, the address is now https://account.smartthings.com/login/smartthings
If you were having trouble with the direct login like I was, try going back through from the base “https://account.smartthings.com” address.

I always assume when something breaks on ST, it’s because they “fixed” something on their end. It settles down eventually.

Adding one more quirk - device status in app is not updating - for example, I will use app to turn off a light, it will say turning off, and the physical light will turn off, but the app will not recognize this for several minutes. Seems to me there is just some massive lagging going on at server side; and lucky me, the switches and motion sensors I got do not allow local processing.

I am seeing this as well. Most devices respond instantly but none report status right away in the app. Doesn’t matter if they’re Z-Wave or Zigbee. The hub event log in the IDE is not updating either.

EDIT: Correction. Event logs are appearing about 19 minutes behind the actual event.

Mobile app reporting that most of my devices are unavailable… They were all working fine last night… Way to go SmartThings…

Can control some things on app. Device status is flakey. Aeon minimote huge delay if it even works at all. Zooz 4n1 sensors working ok. Some door senors working. Guess cause cloud vs local. To bad the v2 hub couldn’t be divided to when having problems it could be switched in to some sort of safe mode. Run some kind of local backed up program that would run everything. Then when st gets fixed it gets switched back to the ota.

ts freaking out for me to. In Phoenix AZ. No access to Hue lights. Says doors are open when they are not. But My Apple HomeKit is working for the Hue lights.

Edit But when you look under “Recently” it does not show my front door opening this morning. But it set off the alarm.

Idea: AWS & Azure had to be updated due to the crazy intel bug.
Maybe due to the extra CPU use post patch, their instance is saturating?
Next couple of days/weeks/months are going to be interesting in the IT world!

Can you update all of your links to include https:// in front of them? https://account.smartthings.com

account.smartthings… is not a valid link and want to avoid anyone pressing those thinking it’s broken.
