SmartThings no longer finds SamsungTV

After smart thing update 20Nov22 Alexa can’t control Channel/Vol on Samsung Smart TV (on and off is ok). Deleted TV from smartthings. Tried to add it to smartthings again. Got this error message about wifi. How do I get the TV being controlled by Alexa again?

The above error you’re seeing is because your phone is not on wifi. You can’t add devices on cellular.

I’ve found (oddly) that control of Samsung branded devices actually is the worst of any devices. Samsung oven, soundbar and TVs are routinely not able to be accessed or fully controlled in SmartThings. Delete and rejoining does not solve the issue.

Up until a few weeks ago I used to be able to turn my Samsung tv off via Alexa (only off, not on) by saying “Alexa turn off tv”
Now when I do this alexa just beeps an acknowledgment but nothing happens.

amen. can’t change inputs on my soundbar with a routine, so thats going to hurt once webcore goes away.

Do you mean tv source or soundbar source?

What model. They announced they are dropping support for the 2015/2016 sets.

(it’s mixed in with all the end of groovy announcements)

it was announced in the official transition FAQ, but buried pretty deep.

Just out of curiosity, will these TVs work with a regular IR blaster? If so, you could get partial integration with a SwitchBot mini hub. I know that’s not very satisfying, but it might be better than nothing.

Or move to Home Assistant where these models are supported, and not being part of Samsung is the key in it! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Seriously, is this going to go like this every other year Samsung is going to drop the support for the next generation of TVs until the ones advertised as compatible with SmartThings going to be there… And then what?

I read the recent articles that the SmartView app inside the SmartThings app will let you to stream your TV’s screen to your (Samsung) mobile device.
That was a selling feature when I bought my H series TV in 2013 or 2014. And the feature just disappeared from the SmartView app after 6 month. Yes, the app was called SmartView as well, just to keep things straight.

Does Samsung every X years hire a new PR/UX/UI/Dev department who has no idea what has been done for the past few years and they try to reinvent the wheel over and over?

soundbar source. My 2018 QLED tv does let me change tv source in routines.

Thanks Bob
That worked. Our TV is back in Smart Things - but SmartThings isn’t linking to my Alexa account.

Not sure, Nathan. Thanks to advice from Bob on the forum and some googling I’ve got it working again.
Appreciate your response.

I’ve got a solution for that! Use @TAustin’s HTTP Device creator.

Create Momentary Button HTTP Devices for each input.

The HTTP GET commands for Samsung soundbars are (http://192.168.X.X:56001/UIC?cmd=%3Cname%3ESetFunc%3C/name%3E%3Cp%20type=%22str%22%20name=%22function%22%20val=%22hdmi1%22/%3E)

Change out the IP for your soundbar’s IP and make individual devices for each input. I believe they are called HDMI1, HDMI2, AUX and BT

Make sure your firewall has Port 56001 open.

Create your routines pushing the momentary button to change the input. It works wonderfully for me.
