SmartThings Hub V2 and V3, which app?

Hello,

Question 1:
For the SmartThings Hub v2, which app do I use? Samsung Connect or Classic?

Question 2:
For the SmartThings Hub v3, which app do I use? Samsung Connect or Classic? Will the hub work with either?

For the V3, you must use the new app to set it up. After that, you can use either or both.

For the V2, you can use either or both.

They’ve already told us that the classic app will be going away eventually, but they haven’t said exactly when. For now they have suggested that those who already have a system set up with the classic app continue to use it.

If you have Samsung smart appliances or televisions, you will have to use the new app for those devices.

Thanks!

By the V3, how would you change apps after you set it up?

Both apps are accessing data from the cloud so there’s no mandatory extra set-up to switch between apps.

The new app is kind of insistent about placing devices into “rooms”. So it will prompt you to assign each new device to a room.

FWIW, I’m a fairly new SmartThings user with a V2 hub. I use both apps plus some user of the web IDE.

I assume you mean logging in to both apps? With the Classic app, you choose New to SmartThings and 1) if you are already logged into STSC, it will detect and log you in automatically or 2) if not logged into STSC, you select to login with your Samsung account.
