Smartthings Android update 1.7.56.21 switch slow loading times (29 Nov 20)

I really hopped that someone from Smartthings would respond

Are u sure that your problems are app related?

This isn’t a support forum. For official support, you need to contact Samsung through their support channels. There’s an app menu for support or email (in the USA or UK).

Not so much for Cyprus though

I know your highly tech Andreas but I have definitely found a fast WiFi connection makes a difference

No doubt your already using high speed but you never know u might have 2 speeds at home and for whatever reason your on the slowest connection

Probably not but worth a mention

I’ve never suffered from particularly slow start times for the app, and generally found STHM seemed to be the limiting factor. However things have slowed over the last week or so, and since the update, which I have had in the last two days, have been dramatically slower at times. Those times are when it hasn’t been used for a while. It it like it is initialising a cache. After that it gets its speed back until the sequence starts again.

Pretty sure. The issue came up after the app update.

I already have. Many of the staff here helped me multiple times with problems

Hi Mike. I have a v2 hub which is ethenet only. I am also rocking unifi APs and Router. I could restart the modem though to see if it makes a difference. Also restarted my phone, cleared the app’s cache, rebooted the hub, tried from my other phone… still the same…

Since the update, it is like that every time.

Ok also rebooted my modem, tried on my wife’s Xiaomi phone and our Galaxy Tab S7 tablet and they are all with the same issue… Maybe it is something to do with my region… also the issue is for both zigbee and z-wave devices.

Try as I might, I can’t seem to create particularly slow load times Andreas

just updated my Galaxy Tab A and performance is laggy but that is expected on an older device

My S10 loads quickly, not as quick as the classic app (god bless it) but quick enough to be useable

If its happening on all your devices it must be server lag somewhere

I’m also experiencing extreme slowness when I open ā€˜any’ SmartThings device page on all three of my Samsung Android devices that have updated to the new SmartThings version. However, my iPad is opening all of the SmartThings device pages with gusto. So, there must be some issue with the new SmartThings Android app.

Finally someone who has the same issue. are you in the NA04 region as well? Did you open a support ticket?

Hi @Andremain, I am in Australia and I also after the update have had the gift of 6-12 second load times per device, from the 1-2 seconds it was taking yesterday before I updated (running on Google Pixel running Android 11)

In addition to the slowness I also can’t operate any device if I click into it. Doesn’t matter if the device is Samsung, Fibaro, Aeotec the ON/OFF function on all devices are errored out.

ST could you kindly please fix I would like the option of operating my smart devices from the app😊

Happy to post a video of the super speedy 10-12sec load times and all devices without the ability to turn on and off. If anyone or ST feels it’s useful just let me know.:+1:

Hi, please do so and also send open a ticket with Smartthings.

I’ve already opened a ticket but i’ve never ever actual had smartthings support respond to a problem I get the standard reponse of it has been passed to the correct team they will get back to you shortly (but they never do) :disappointed_relieved: might be a region related thing. Australia doesnt have a ST direct support as of yet.

I hadn’t shared a video before so a little bit of stuffing around hopefully this works: https://vimeo.com/487021469

You will notice in my video its not only 6-12seconds to load the on/off is unavailable

I also noticed in the comments someone had suggested it could be internet speed related, so in the video I show my internet and device speed.

Hope this helps! :+1:

Thanks! Lets keep this going someone will notice…

I downloaded some previous versions of the Android SmartThings app and version 1.7.54.21 doesn’t have this issue on my Samsung S8+ SmartPhone. Both the current 1.7.56.21 version and the previous version 1.7.55.23 have this issue on my Samsung S8+ SmartPhone. I also advised SmartThings support about this in the ticket I have open with them on this ā€˜slowness’ issue.

I’m going to keep using the latest version 1.7.56.21 (and any future updates) on my Tab S6 in order to see if they ever resolve the issue. And the fact that this new version comes with access to Samsung Labs which has a small offering of SmartApps now, but hopefully it will grow with all the available SmartApps that SmartThings has available in the IDE.

And, I wander if SmartThings will ever add the IDE’s listing of available Simulated Device Handlers to this new SmartThings Labs Virtual Switch Creator SmartApp in the future so that I can select a different Simulated device handler for the Virtual Switch I’m creating instead of using the IDE to change them.

Maybe no fixes for anything important, but at least we now have ā€œpersonalized clothing care tipsā€!!!

Wooohooo, I for one am excited :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

I think they are now working on the new freezer range for Eskimos but once that’s done, maybe they might fix some stuff…
