Smarthings Login Issue

:police_car_light: Urgent Help Needed: SmartThings Login Issue - “Invalid ID” :police_car_light:

I am running into a very frustrating issue trying to log in to my SmartThings account, and I’m hoping someone here might have encountered this before or can offer some insight.

The Situation

  • Initial Setup: About 18 months ago, I went through the effort of creating approximately 200 individual SmartThings accounts. The purpose of this was to integrate a large number of devices, and each account was created using a unique Outlook email address.
  • Period of Inactivity: I left these accounts untouched for about 18 months.
  • Current Issue: I am now attempting to log back into one of these accounts (using the correct Outlook email and password), but I am consistently receiving an error message: “Invalid ID.”

My Question

  • Could SmartThings have deactivated or deleted accounts that have been inactive for 18 months (or slightly more)?
  • Is there a known issue with using Outlook email addresses that may have caused a problem upon creation or subsequent login?
  • Is there a way to verify if the account still exists outside of the standard login page?
  • Is there a way to recover these accounts?

Any guidance or suggestions on how to troubleshoot this specific “Invalid ID” error would be hugely appreciated!

Thank you!

Hi, @Tengku
There are no agents of Customer Support present here in the forum. So, we suggest you contact Samsung’s account Customer Support in this case, since this seems to be an issue with the account itself.

Something that confuses me is why you created 200 accounts, if a single location can support around 300 devices, and you can have 10 locations in the same account.

This is for large housing project where one account are for one owner under one location. We cannot have multiple location under one account because of privacy purpose.

I don’t know about the SmartThings side but Samsung automatically delete inactive accounts after two years, and Microsoft threaten to do the same (as do Google). So if the ‘slightly more’ is six months then yes there could perhaps be a problem.

Having said that, I have reminded myself that Samsung clarified that they don’t intend to start deleting accounts until the middle of 2027 as they only announced the policy this year.

They do delete data from the Samsung Cloud after twelve months inactivity, and have done for a long time, but I believe that’s more about phone sync and backup.

This is what I have received from Samsung Care.

You should take a look at this documentation about the Enterprise platform since it could be useful for your case: Introduction | Developer Documentation | SmartThings

We don’t have info on the account deletion/recovery, so you should keep communicating with Samsung in that regard.
