Smartcam HD Pro feature support

It would be nice if adding the device actually worked before we think about motion detection. I have a ticket open for a month already without any updates on why my camera seems to be unavailable from the moment I add it.

In other words end of '16 and even that seems rather optimistic?

I just dropped about $500 on this whole system and the best response you have after 6 months of this thread is maybe in 12 more months you can integrate your own product into your own app? Why would anyone pay 200$ for this camera if you can get a 50$ one and a separate motion sensor. You are not going to get any referrals for this system from me unless this gets fixed.

SmartThings might be owned by Samsung but SmartThings != Samsung. It’s not their own device, it’s made by a completely separate company. The type of integration you are asking for is not a simple add on. Currently SmartThings requests things from the camera, what you’re asking for is for the camera to push information to SmartThings which it doesn’t currently do.

The camera’s also suck.as because theydid away with the MPEG and Jpg interfaces so now you cannot do anything in Smartthings with them except shm which also 6$*ks

Not true at all, you just need custom DTH…

Ya which custom device type. They changed it so it doesn’t work any longer.

How so? I just released a D-Link Camera manager which supports video streaming and image capture along with other features…

We were talking about Samsung cameras, and firmware and features…not dlinks or others.

So Samsung removed those features in a firmware update?

I appreciate the clarification, but it doesn’t change the fact that they are marketing this in a misleading manner. They say the camera is meant for the smartthings, and that the camera includes these features. No where does it say that not all features are compatible with smartthings.

I agree 100% with Matt_C, the marketing of this camera is totally false. I bought this camera (which was more expensive than others I was looking at) because of the Smartthings support. But the limited support it gives is frankly worse than not having any and I’ve deleted it from Smartthings entirely. Samsung should either provide the right level of support (which one product manager stated on this forum would be ready by end of last year) or provide refunds.

yes when Samsung updated the camera firmwares they removed the mpg and jpg streaming functionality so now basically none of the device type drivers work to take a series of pictures with the cameras… only rtsp functionality off which I have not found a device type which works… so now the only function of the camera inside smartthings is the security in shm if you want to pay for it… so as others I totally removed them from smartthings… they are basically useless inside smarthings.

If Samsung cannot even integrate their own camera with smartthings, and there is no option to have a camera that reacts to other smartthings then presume might as well buy a nest cam. At least that will integrate with its own products…

That is terrible. You can’t even implement your own camera! Seriously what is the point of this? a proper working security cam is an obvious feature for a smart home solution and you can’t even get that right. Samsung have owed smart things for r few years and this camera is almost as old and a company as big as samsung are not even committing to roadvmapping this 6 months down the line.

They are completely different companies, it’s not like the SmartCam people are even in the same city/state/country let alone the same organization. Adding anything past the support that was initially agreed upon will take time for negotiation, development and testing.

They’re marketed as though they’re completely integrated, down to the same naming conventions & being bundled together by Samsung. You can’t fault people for expecting them to integrate seamlessly.

I don’t think it’s unreasonable to make those assumptions, but it is unreasonable to get mad at SmartThings when your assumptions are proven incorrect.

I agree that frustration/anger shouldn’t be directed at anyone with SmartThings - it’s on the parent company to get this right. I think it’s ridiculous that Smartcam motion-detection alerts aren’t integrated within the SmartThings app, and my first cynical thought was that it’s not there because Samsung doesn’t want to cannibalize the sales of the motion sensor - so I’m satisfied with knowing that the feature will be coming eventually.

I’m grateful that the SmartThings developers engage directly with the community - it’s the main reason that I’m willing to put up with some of the quirks. It’s got to be a thankless job working on a platform that’s trying to integrate multiple competing standards that are all continuously changing. I understand that this issue can’t be a top concern in the context of everything else that the platform has to adjust to, but it’s an important feature for those of us who do have the camera so I hope it’ll be addressed at some point this year.

I have figured out an interim way (until the camera motion sensor cability is defined in ST platform) to connect your camera motion sensor to your light switch.

The way is use of " IFTTT " !

All wht you need to do is configure the alerts/events in the smartcam native app to be received by e-mail, and then you can configure IFTTT to use the recepit of the e-mail as the trigger.
