I havent found an option that when the motion sensor activates you can make the camera to record a clip.
How do you do this?
I’m using Rule Machine smartapp
@oilisab This has to be done within the Smart Home Monitor (open the app, on the Dashboard click the menu icon and then ‘Setup’). Go to ‘Custom’ and set it up in there. The recordings will then show up within the “Recently” tab of the Dashboard.

Tweeby:
- the ability for the camera’s motion detection to be used
Yup that’s coming very soon! Look for it with the 2.0.4 release.
My SmartThings Hub is running 2.0.6 and I also have SmartCam Pro. Is the camera’s motion detection capability now available via ST?
It didn’t make it, something to do with issues with Samsung’s (TechWin’s) own app and integration between SmartThings and it around the motion detection.
I personally think they should allow the functionality with the caveat it causes duplicate app notifications.
i had to turn off the integration… 4 cameras constantly streaming to my hub was saturating my wifi routrer to the point not much else worked, not to mention the cameras kept connecting disconnecting… this was not an issue previously … something changed in the last hub s/w release.
@Lgkahn I hate to sound like a rookie, but i am. If you could pm me (or post on here) with the steps to integrate the outdoor camera. I followed what you posted picture wise, but i am either dumb or doing something wrong or missing something. i would really appreciate and happy new years
I join the long queue of those wanting the motion detection integrated. Here in the UK the HD Pro is being sold by our major electrical store as a bundle with ST. Surely some pressure should be brought to bear on Samsung to deliver on the benefit on taking on ST. Please give this issue the highest priority.
I guess this needs to be a priority if they wish to start charging for their premium video service!!
Seems to me if they can’t trigger from the camera the premium service on Samsung Camera’s isn’t that convenient to rely on other sensors. I presume that service will start in the near future.
Yeah, I noticed they pushed back the “free trial” period to February. Wouldn’t be surprised if it got pushed again. I would be happy with any sort of motion detection since I already uninstalled the TechWin so I don’t get notifications anyway. Currently I have a motion detector outdoors in the cold so I can have clip recording working. Would be nice to have the camera do the detecting.
Please update to allow motion to be used on the camera asap. Thanks
I just installed the camera (Samsung hd) but don’t see the option to use the motion sensor from the camera to trigger the alarm. How can I get it to work? Did I miss something? Have lasted firmware for ST and Cam.
Thanks
Nope, you didn’t miss a thing. ST keeps missing their deliverable to enable this.
Got the Smartcam Pro for the holidays and love it but but no motion detection is quite the bummer. Hope we don’t have to wait much longer.
The worst part is that it sounds like they have the option available, but aren’t releasing it yet. The reason is because if you install the TechWin camera app, you get double notifications. Sounds like a bad reason to not release it. I would be happy with a beta version or just a general “hey, uninstall the native Samsung app if you use this feature.” Then again, I don’t have to answer tech support emails.
If the camera loses power, the Status LED setting (at least, maybe others as well) is reset. It seems the camera doesn’t maintain that setting in memory.
I was having the same issue, but I am now on Android app v2.71 and it no longer interrupts everything I’m doing.
Does anyone know how to get around the “There was a problem retrieving the livestream” error message on the IPhone Smartthings App for the SmartCam HD Pro… Just bought the hub and camera… kinda bummed out that it isn’t working.
That seems to be the case with all the smartcam line. The cameras remember every other setting when they lose power and should remember led status as well IMHO.
Related, anyone else experiencing the status led being turned back on by ST? I have 6 smartcams and the 3 outside ST never exhibit this behavior. The 3 connected to ST periodically lose this setting and I have to go back into the smartcam app to re-turn off.
I’m seeing it happen without loss of power. I put a very small piece of electrical tape over the light and stopped worrying about it
SmartThings Staff: PLEASE let us use the camera as a motion sensor soon. I’ve had two separate incidences at my house recently where creepers were looking around on our porch—we could’ve really benefitted from being able to use it as a motion sensor and integrate it with our ST, which is the primary reason we chose Smartcam over others. We don’t care about double notifications from the Samsung/TechWin app, we really need this feature to work, even if we could get it in beta.
Could we please have a status update on when we can expect to gain this feature?
