I have a the Smart Lighting in my SmartApps. Will this be obsoleted by the Groovy transition? One action that I use is “sync with switch” and haven’t found a comparable action in Rules.
So my questions are:
Is the Smart Lighting SmartApps going away?
Is the logical replacement rules?
Is there a comparable action in Rules for “Sync with Switch”?
Smartlighting has already been replaced with a new official version, named Smart Lighting. Right now some people still have the old version, some people only have the new version, and some people seem to have both. But you shouldn’t have to worry about it, it looks like everything it will be handled automatically.
Also, many custom Edge drivers for both Z-Wave and Zigbee expose association groups that allow a device to mirror its actions to other devices without the need for Smartlighting rules. And even if the normal driver doesn’t expose them, there are “configuration” drivers you can install temporarily to set the groups and then switch back to the normal driver. For example, for Z-Wave devices you can use the Z-Wave Device Config Mc from @Mariano_Colmenarejo.
I’ve got a kludge with a virtual device and two smart app entries. It appears that smart lighting will control status/dimming and color, but not both simultaneously. So I used a virtual device to mirror status on the virtual switch and adjust dimming level. Then I have a separate smart app entry that uses the color coordinator that is activated when the virtual switch is turned on. Dimming and on/ off is via the virtual switch, and I need to go into the smart app and set the color manually when needed for the various devices. One setting to get all colors set the same way. Now, if only ST, would allow both synch and color to be set at the same time. Luckily this is only a seasonal setting.
