Schlage Nexia Lock Remote Administration

Jeff, please explain how you can see what code was used to open the door? I am very curious how you enabled this functionality.

Interesting… I just looked in the logs of my Kwikset and I see this line:

Side Door Lock was unlocked with code 1

Now, I’m only using one code in my lock, but presumably if I was using more than one code this would display which code was used. For example, if I put in one code for my son and another for my daughter when my daughter put her code in it would say: “…with code 2”

Now, if this information is something that can be grabbed from the log via a smartapp, it introduces some interesting possibilities. That’s a big IF there… I don’t know if a SmartApp can see the logs or not, but if it can you can have certain things happen based which code was entered. My son’s code might turn on this or that light why my daughter’s code might do something different. You could even customize and text alert: “Suzie just unlocked the side door…”

Thinking outside the box, you could even use a door lock like this as a portable control panel. If I enter code 1-2-3-4 it initiates a program to turn on these lights. But if I enter code 1-2-3-5 then it turns on these light instead. Of course, this would be a very expensive and kinda big control panel, but it is interesting to think about options here.

Right on Chris! This is exactly where I was seeing what code was used to unlock. It doesn’t tell you what the code is, but it will tell you if it was code 1, 2, 3, 4, etc.

I really like your idea about a SmartApp grabbing what code was used. Could definitely do some pretty cool stuff with that!!

I don’t know if something changed on the back end but about six hours ago my Schlage lock decided to start “working”. I added it several weeks ago and I have consistently had the ability to control it via the ST app but that was it. Earlier today, it started reporting status when it was manually locked or unlocked and I am now seeing the “Door was unlocked by code 1 (or 2 or 3)”. I didn’t do anything different on my end…

This is awesome! Now if we could manage PIN codes, it would be incredible!

Nothing has changed as far as I know. Mine has been doing this since I got it hooked up. I had some issues where it wasn’t showing up, but that turned out to be the SmartThings hub being too far away.

I assume since remote admin of the codes is not available that the user codes have to be programmed manually? Upto 19 Codes I understand for the Schlage BE369NX.

If that is the case then I assume that it’s not possible to maintain a schedule for each code. Eg. today with the Nexia subscription we can have a specific code only available from 7AM to 4PM. So any code manually programmed would be available always?

Can anyone answer this?

Does Anyone have an update on this? I really want to add and manage codes for my schlage deadbot

I second that. I would really like to manage my schlage as well.

Me too. I would really like to remotely manage the codes for the BE469NX Schlage lock.

+1 Here. Just hooked up the Schlage Lock to my hub; lock, unlock and status OK. I wish I could change codes, limit codes to schedule. The forced entry alarm is a nice feature that could be set to activate siren. Does the Nexia show alarm activity?

stupid question: do you have to buy the nexia bridge in order to use one of those door locks with smartthings?

@kirsten27 nope they connect directly to the SmartThings hub.

ok another stupid question, if you cant add the codes/etc (what does it do for you)

will it automatically unlock when you come in the vicinity or is it more of a sensor/trigger for other items? (when you come in through door it turns on lights) or is it both???

this goji looks pretty cool, too bad i think its just bluetooth

my main thing is im trying to find the best lock to work with smartthings that has most features (and possibly is already tested/approved) for the most part by the smartthings team

any recommendations would be appreciated.

@kirsten27 you can still add any code from the lock itself. Adding lock codes from the app is coming as well. As is the ability to get notifications on which specific code was used to open the door.

You can setup the lock to do a variety of things like lock/unlock automatically when you arrive/leave. You can also control it manually from your app.

So I started this thread over a year ago hoping to get full support for my Schlage locks. Something I had with MCV before switching to Smartthings. I have seen very little progress in over a year. The only improvement in the lock support is that the log now shows which code # unlocked the door.

The ability to set and remove pins, set schedules for the lock and assign names to codes are the most important features that I am looking for. Smartthings has a nice user interface in their apps and I have set some cool IFTT, but of the 20+ devices attached to my Smartthings, the locks are the most important.

What is going on with the developers? This was supposed to be a priority. If MCV and Nexia have it figured out, then Smartthings certainly should too.

Any updates would be appreciated.

Have there been any improvements on this? I’d like to buy the FE469NX handle set, but need the ability to trigger specific actions based of which code was used - at a minimum*. Ideally I’d like to prevent certain codes from being used outside of a schedule, but suspect that is not yet possible…?

At a minimum - When code 1,2, or 3 are used during any time of day mode is set to “Home”, alarm alert level is deactivated, and other home-state actions are initiated. When code 4 is used during any time of day mode is set to “Nanny” and majority of alerts are ignored. When code 5 is used during a set time window, mode is set to “Maid” and majority of alerts are ignored. If code 5 is used outside of that window, the lock itself will unlock (because codes cannot be managed by ST), but the alarms will not deactivated, etc.
^ Is all that possible with the Schlage locks right now without custom development?

Any update on this remote administration feature?

Okay this SmartApp works with my Schlage lock to create, update and delete users.

Thanks @duncan

That is helpful Rboy, but kind of annoying this is 2 years old and they said they would do it, but it still isn’t done officially.

I agree with you.

I gave up for my vacation rental. Installing a Lockstate lock that gives me FULL functionality thru the web or phone app. Total flexibility on setting up and controlling access codes. I have this lock in my home for 1.5 years. When I added my LS hub they were still really new and didn’t have locks. I tried to use a Schlage in the vacation spot but being 2 hours away no control through an app makes it a non-starter. They say it is coming but I need it now. Can’t wait.
