In the last couple of days, when I turn my washing machine on to start a load of laundry, it defaults to the delicate cycle. I cannot get it to go back to defaulting on the normal cycle. I have not (intentionally) changed any settings and I’m not sure what could be causing it. I have the SmartThings app, but rarely use it/go into it. I happened to look at it today to see if there was a way to change it and noticed that the delicate cycle immediately pops up and has what looks to be a favorite tag next to it.
I have tried 2 things. I have unplugged the washing machine and let it sit for about 10 minutes before plugging it back in. I also tried disconnecting my washer from the SmartThings app and readding the device. Neither of these methods worked.
Can anyone help direct me on how to get my washer to default to the normal cycle when the machine is first turned on?
I don’t have a Samsung washer, but I do have a Samsung dishwasher. In the ST app open the device tile, click on 3 dots in upper right corner and there maybe be a Settings option.
Thank you! I tried this as well, but for some reason, the only thing that shows in the settings is the Wifi. I figured there would be an option in there as well.
This forum was set up a number of years ago so that customers could help other customers with the SmartThings Home Automation platform. But we do also get a some of the app questions here.
There is a separate official help forum for appliances, televisions, and mobile phones, which is staffed by Samsung employees. Sometimes you can get a quicker answer there for these items. They may just send you back here if they think it’s an app issue, but it’s worth trying.
I performed several tests on my Samsung washer-dryer and the cycle that it places by default is the one you have as your frequently used cycle. You can see that in the service tab, pressing drum cleaning.
What you need to do within the smartthings app is to uncheck the iA pattern box then you select the cotton cycle, send it to the washing machine (you can do that wash) after that, that cycle will be the first one and the list of cycles will be the same as it was predetermined from the beginning.
Unfortunately, I contacted Samsung and dug into it for a while and nothing ever worked. Samsung recommended all the things I had already tried and nobody could figure out why it was defaulting to delicate or how to get the “favorite” icon off. My washer randomly started defaulting back to normal after a couple of weeks. I did unplug it overnight on a couple occasions, but I don’t think that played a factor. I just kept changing it back to normal when I would wash my normal loads of laundry, and eventually it went back. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help!
I wish I could give an answer for how to solve it! Samsung was unable to help with this and all the research just gave the same possible resolutions that I had already tried.
After a few weeks, my washer eventually went back to defaulting to normal. I’m not sure why, because I had been having to change it from delicate to normal and one day I turned it on and it was on normal!
I’m sorry I couldn’t be more helpful. Best of luck, I hope yours will go back to normal!
I agree. I did the chat and also spoke with a technician and nobody could figure out what was wrong. I would continue using your washer as normal… and be sure to manually put it back in normal. That’s the only thing I did consistently and it eventually just went back. It is very strange and nobody seems to know how to fix this issue yet. I’m sorry you’re experiencing the problem, but hopefully yours goes back to normal soon!
Thank you! That was actually one of the methods I tried, but even after the cycle was over, it went back to defaulting to delicate for the following cycle.
It did eventually go back to defaulting to normal, it just randomly did it on its own one day!
No ma’am… I eventually just turned on my washer to run a cycle one day and it had defaulted to normal finally! This persisted for a couple of weeks for me… I tried every method recommended and even unplugged it overnight multiple times and nothing would reset it. It finally reset on its own. I’m sorry I couldn’t be more help! Let me know if you find a method that works in case this happens again!
