Samsung Connect Home in Australia (smartthing hub function not working)

I’ve documented the steps I took to get the Smart Things hub working in Australia. I do disable the Z-wave radios on mine, and advise that you should to:

Hopefully this will help others.

Thank you for the information.
I also look forward to using Action Tiles. I have read a lot of good things about this.

I’m from Australia and they are selling the Samsung SmartThings hub here. Is this wave still banned from Australia?

You are responding to a post which is three years old, and a lot has changed in that time.

Z wave is available on different frequencies for different regions. The Samsung smartthings hub that is sold in Australia is on the Australian frequency. But it would be illegal to import one from the UK or the United States, because those are using different frequencies.

As long as you bought it from an authorized seller in Australia, it should be fine as there are now Samsung smartthings hubs built on the Australian frequency for sale there. (Like I said, a lot can change in three years.)

Note that any of your other devices like sensors and switches have to match the Z wave frequency of your hub exactly, so you also have to make sure that those are on the Australian frequency.

Thanks but I’ve purchased a Smart things hub and a Smart things garage door controller from you. No instructions or installation information, or what z- wave the devices are using in Australia. As far as I know you’ve bought them overseas!!! . Also the box was not in the normal packing as you stated it works out cheaper as your not paying for packaging. How do we know if it’s for Australia??

This forum was set up several years ago so customers could help other customers. It’s not an official support channel except for the Announcements category. I’m just another customer.

There are a few SmartThings employees who post here from time to time, their names will have a special badge.

Also, there is no “SmartThings garage door controller” that I’m aware of.

And definitely the packaging comment sounds odd. Samsung is one of the biggest companies in the world, they don’t need to save money on packaging.

What website did you buy the kit from?

As far as how you can tell, there should be a label on the devices that gives the frequency. It might be on the bottom of the device or inside the battery compartment.

There are some official support options on the Samsung Australia website, but most forum reports have been that they don’t seem to know much about the home automation products. :disappointed_relieved:

.

One last thought: are you sure it was “SmartThings” and not “Smart Life”?

Although the names are similar, those are two different product lines from two completely different companies. People often get them confused. Smart Life is from a giant Chinese company, their home automation products are very popular in Australia, but they have nothing to do with the system discussed in this forum. They do, however, have several garage door controllers, and SmartThings, as I mentioned, does not that I know of.

Any official Samsung SmartThings products will have either a Samsung logo, SmartThings logo, or both. Also note there is no space in “SmartThings,” it’s a registered brand mark.
