Ever since yesterday (Oct 21, 2025) when a Ring notification pops up (different popup design too) the rest of my samsung screen goes black and when the popup is dismissed the picture doesn’t come back. This Doesn’t happen when viewing the Samsung TV screen, only when viewing the DirecTV or ROKU thru the HDMI input sent by the Denon AVR.
Something about the popup changed on Oct 21st.
I have the exact same issue as of 10/21/2025. Have contacted Samsung. They seem clueless about how this could be. I’ve sent them videos showing this issue exactly as described in this post. Will be very surprised if they figure it out. Something definitely changed and Samsung has no idea. I’ve been texting a guy at Samsung, sent in error reports, etc…Still have the issue.
Seems like they don’t care. they (smartthings) changed something that has broken it and I doubt it will ever get fixed. Thanks for your input on having the same situation. When I chatted with Samsung they said they “Never heard of anything like this” and blamed it on my Denon AVR.
Samsung has pointed the finger at my cable provider and the cable provider pointed the finger at Ring. No doubt in my mind it’s a SmarThings issue. Sadly, the first thing these days is to say “It’s not my fault” or “have never heard of this before”. I’ll keep you posted in this thread. I purchased the Ring cameras with the intent of integrating with the Samsung/SmartThings. It did work as expected until 10/21/2025. And sending Samsung a video on this issue seems to have done nothing to prove to them there is a real issue here. They keep coming back telling me to reboot the TV, do a TV Factory Reset, disable/enable SmartThings Notifications, reload Ring App and SmartThings apps on my iPhone, etc….
Yes, SmartThings was affected by a major Amazon Web Services (AWS) outage that occurred on October 20, 2025. The incident caused degraded performance, and some users reported their smart home devices were not working correctly. SmartThings has since reported that the incident is resolved and its services are stable.
What happened
Cause: A bug in the Domain Name System (DNS) was the root cause of the widespread AWS outage.
**Impact on SmartThings:**SmartThings, which uses AWS infrastructure for its platform, experienced degraded performance as a result of the outage.
Wider impact: The outage affected numerous other apps, websites, and services that rely on AWS, including Snapchat, Venmo, and even Amazon’s own e-commerce site.
Status of SmartThings
The incident affecting the SmartThings Platform is now resolved.
SmartThings has stated that its services are stable and operational.
Did the look of the actual popup change for you on the 21st? Mine totally changed and seemed bigger and it defaulted to clicking on the full screen button in the center when that used to be on the right side and it defaulted to closing the popup when I pressed the button.
thanks for pursuing this issue! Matt
Yes. I noticed the same thing. The new popup is larger and is as you described.
BTW, I did notice something else last night. While using AirPlay listening to music on the TV, the screen did not go black after the Ring Pop-Up notification…Hmmm? Rest assured, Samsung is looking into this…
Have heard nothing from Samsung after contacting by phone and filling out error reports on the SmartThings app.

UPDATE
Received the below from Samsung on 11/7/2025:
Hi, Jeff! We’ve got an update from the Escalation Team on the Ticket #309545803. Apologies for the delay. Please check their response in verbatim below;
"We’ve reported this to the TV product team. This is a known issue with the recent update on the TV.
We’ve received an update from the devs indicating that they are aware of the issue and that improvements are planned in a future SW update for the TV. We apologize for any inconvenience.
For now, have the user dismiss the alert when it appears or disable notifications from Ring to prevent the issue from occurring. "
I just figured out that when it pops up and the screen is black, I can hit the center enter button on the remote and it goes to full screen then it defaults to the X for close and if I hit it again, the popup disappears and the picture comes back.
If i let it time out the popup goes away but the picture is still all black and in both cases, the audio is still there. If I hit the home button on the remote the Samsung TV screen shows up and then hit the connected devices for my Denon AVR, the picture comes back.
