Sorry, Eric, still a bit new and mis-spoke (mis-wrote?). I meant does it act as a repeater.
I just posted this over in a Devices & Integrations virtual 3-way thread, and iām posting here to hopefully find someone who has done a virtual 3-way with Fibaro Dimmer 2ās. I need to establish a virtual 3-way with two Fibaro Dimmer 2 (US) modules. iāve tried various SmartApps and Rules (Dim with Me, Dim and Dimmer, etc.) but the lag is not acceptable. My setup includes a ST hub and minimote. Each Fibaro is wired according to their instructions using on-off-on switches, configured as RollerBlind in the DH, using S1 and S2 on the Fibaro dimmer. both switches properly control the lights to which they are physically wired. but for the life of me, i cannot establish a direct association. iāve read every post i can find on virtual 3-ways and the Fibaro dimmer. This should be straightforward but it is kicking my butt! iām using the device handler from @erocm1231 in this thread: [RELEASE] Fibaro Dimmer 2 (US). and i followed @duncan process in this thread using an Accessory switch type: Evolve LTM-5 transmitter to LRM-AS association. no luck.
The Fibaro instructions only provides directions to establish associations using the Fibaro Home Center, which i do not have. and iāve been unsuccessful in using the minimote to establish the association ā i havenāt been able to guess the right combo/pattern of button presses on the Fibaro Dimmer to get the minimote to blink fast blue. When i asked Fibaro tech support for help, they pointed me back to ST.
Fibaro uses association groups 2 and 3 to associate on/off and dimmer functions (respectively) from S1 and groups 4 and 5 to associate on/off and dimmer functions from S2. Both S1 and S2 are required when using an on-off-on switch. The fibaro instructions do not recommend changing association group 1. I need both on/off and dim capabilities on the target switch from the Accessory Switch. Please Help!
It should act as a repeater. I believe all mains powered z-wave devices act as repeaters.
Thatās what I was thinking. So, just so Iām clear, this little device gets wired in behind the standard toggle or paddle switch, correct? And turns a regular toggle or paddle switch into a smart switch and/or dimmer?
Yes, that is correct.
So when we are talking about ābutton presses,ā is the little device actually reading taps on the toggle or paddle - up, down, etc.?
Yeah, this switch can be configured to act as a button device in addition to a light switch. For example, you can triple click with a momentary switch to turn off all the lights in your house. I havenāt tried it with a toggle switch, so I donāt know how exactly that works, but a double toggle should be able to be configured to take some action.
Hi
Thanks for the hard work - will this work with the UK version of the dimmer?
Thanks!
First off, thank you Eric for another great device type. Very solid and works perfectly.
I love these devices. First device that finally works really great with a 2-wire setup! No random blinking like the GE Dimmers and they power off all the way with a low LED load. So far I have not needed one of those bypass adapters for any of my LED bulbs.
However, I just had one turn off on me for no reason. That is going to be freaky if it happens often. Took 30 seconds for it to respond and allow me to power it back on. I think itās the max brightness settings. I pushed it to the limits when I set it up by putting it at the highest setting I could without it turning off automatically. I moved it down a couple points, so hopefully that prevents it from happening again. Anyone else have this problem at all?
I also noticed on the Fibaro forum that a lot of people report the new firmware for these fix a lot of issues (specifically around them shutting off automatically). Any way for us ST users to update them?
Thanks!
Does anyone know how to wire in a Fibaro Dimmer 2 into a 3 way switch? It would be in the left gang box below. The manual doesnāt really give good instructions for US toggle switch installation for 3 way switches.

Hello Frank.
I found this on the smartest house web site scroll down a bit to see the install diagrams.
And officially in the manual on page 10
Hope this helps
Did exactly what you described here, but the dimmer doesnāt even include the lamp. Can I have it a malfunction, tell me how to understand the problem? I already tried to connect this without a device handler = I did, but in reality, the lamp doesnāt turn on.
Hi,
Iām using the fibaro dimmer 2 DH.
For some reason the divide disappeared from the app. I excluded it and added it again. Itās working fine except dor the dimming function. device wonāt Dim. it will dim to 50% if I set it as the max from inside config, but the I cant change it in the app using the slider
any help ?
thanks !
Fab
A couple of thoughts.
- Could it be sat to on/off mode? Parameter 32 set to 0?
- During calibration the Dimmer thought the lamp could not be dimmed. Maybe try calibration again or set parameter 32 to 1
Yeah, calibration sounds like a good idea. Set the config option to āAuto-calibration performed after each power onā and turn off power at the breaker and turn it back on. Then toggle the switch.
thx Simon thx Eric
tried both but still not working
for some reason the device is not calibrating although I set the parameter for it to do so
I also tried setting parameter 32 to 1 via zwave tweaker, but also didnt work.
the light just boots to the max I specify in the config
other thoughts ?
Fab
I take it that during calibration you saw the bulb brightness increase to max a couple of times?
Try running calibration again, but this time watch the live logging for the device. Yog should see the parameters coming back. Ther should be max and min brightness in ther. Take those values and put them manually into the device settings in from the app.
Also just released you said you set parameter 32 using wave tweaker. you can do that in the regular DTH. Can we confirm which DTH you are using. the best one ids the one by Codersaur and the version I use is 2.02
No itās not calibrating. the light just turns on immediately to the max. it doesnt enter a calibration process like what you say below. the last time I set this same device on the same light (before it disppeared) , it entered a calibration process as you described below. Now itās not going through calibration
In that case you need to force a calibration using the app. Go into the setup for the dimmer and set parameter 13 (I think) to do a calibration. Then when it completes you can set it back to normal.
Almost certain the reason you canāt dim is because it didnāt complete a calibration.
Hi Simon,
Happy new year ! It finally worked after forcing the calibration. i also made sure to use a newer version of the same DTH. Thanks for your great help !
