Great job Bigjjj.
I found a bug in the original DTH, please download the new version 01.02 from github here
Here is the result in actionTile
Let me know if you see issue.

@pakmanwg
1.02 works perfectly.
Thank you!
I would like to use these sensors as a thermal alert for a hydroponic radiant heat system. I have 7 zones near each other so I donât believe that I can use the built-in temperature sensor. I will solder in the attached normally open switches and clamp them onto the heat pipes. Could I trouble @pakmanwg to modify the handler? When the switch reads open the zone would indicate âOffâ. When the switch closes the zone would indicate âOnâ
Hi Bigjjj, are you using it like a smoke detector? Says if it is open, it means clear. And if it is closed, it means detected. If that the case, you can select smoke detector as the function. This will be more natural as smartthings will send you alert if the contact is closed (smoke detected).
If you want it the other way around, I have a new function type âsmoke detector closed as clearâ in the new version of the DTH v01.04. This will be opposite if the contact is closed, it means clear. And when the contact is opened, it means smoke.
I can create another devices with on and off, but smarthings or actionTiles will not understand what to do with on/off. You probably see a â?â in the tiles.
Let me know.
Best âcustomer supportâ on SmartThings here. Nice stuff, @pakmanwg
@pakmanwg, yes I will be using it like the smoke detector function, open clear , closed detected.
I can use the smoke detector function as you have it already written and remember that clear means off and detected means on. Is there a way to change the icon from a smoke symbol? Actiontiles does not have a selection of icons to choose from on this type as they do on switch types.
Would it make sense to code the sensor as a switch? Then it would have the on/off labeling and icon selection. I donât know if that is possible or a good idea or recommended by you. Thoughts?
Tried the tilt sensor. At first it was not reporting anything so switched the legs of mercury switch and now it is working just fine. just need to find a better way to stick the sensor to mailbox as the electrical tape is not a good long-term solution.
Now waiting for the next sale to begin
Great to hear. I am using the tape come with the sensor for a few month now, so far so good. I agree, it may not be a long term solution.
Hi Bigjjj, now see your idea. I added a new switch function in the DTH in v01.05. You can try it out.
So it will report on/off if you select switch as the function type.
However, I have not figured out the icon things. For normal switch, we allow to change the icon in the setting menu. But after I added all this sensor type, the menu now donât have option to change icon. You can play around with actiontiles to see they allow you to change the icon or not. Good luck. If I figure it out, I will post it here.
Thanks people in the communities here like you and bigjjj to come up with new changes and idea.
Enjoy.
I updated the DTH with 1.05 from 1.02 and just to test the function I reassigned my smoke detector as a switch. It showed the switch as on.
When I went back to change the smoke detectors back to âSmoke Detectorâ it told me that it was âDetectedâ. I was surprised by that as I was using the âSmoke Detectorâ function in v1.02 it was showing as clear.
I changed the selection to âSmoke Detector Closed as Clearâ and it is showing clear now. I am wondering if something got flipflopped in the coding between 1.02 and 1.05 or if I should drive home and check my house for smoke
I was sure that I had wired my relay per your original instructions. Now I am questioning myself. A little confused at the moment.
I changed another sensor (on a door that I know is closed) to the switch function and it shows as on. So I think the switch code is good.
Hi Bigjjj
It looks logical to me. The followings will have the same status as the sensor is closed.
âonâ in switch
"delected" in Smoke Detector
"clear" in Smoke Detector Closed as Clear
Just try only 1.05, since some of the logic in 1.02 may not be correct.
One possiblity is the original status is not correct, then when you change function, the wrong status will carry over.
One way to clear it out is to make the sensor open and close physically once. It should show the right status.
By physically, I mean use some conducting wire to short the two ends of the sensors wires to make it close and remove the conducting wire to make it open.
Hi pakmanwg,
You were correct, the smoke detector sensor seemed to be locked into an old state. I cleared the state and switched it back to âsmoke detectorâ and it works great.
I setup a new sensor as âswitchâ and it reports perfectly. Also Actiontiles does see it as a switch and I am able to choose from the different icons that they provide.
Everything is working exactly as expected!
Thank you for all of your efforts.
Bigjjj
Great to hear. Enjoy.
@pakmanwg âŚPhenomenal work!! I bought a bunch of these on sale for $10 and had extras for just this type of thing. I used your instructions for the moisture sensor, functionality is perfect. I have a smoke detector relay on the way and canât wait to get that running next. Thank you!
Hi AMC,
Great to hear that. Good luck with your smoke detector.
Just wondering what people think about this. For the leak/water sensor mod, would it be better, or make sense, to solder wires onto those two points? Iâm just thinking that water will hit the bottom of the device and go in the holes and ruin it. With the wires, the device could be put out of harms way with just the wires down in the water.
Yes, I kind of agree it will be better with the wire if you can place the device higher and only the wire touching the floor. But the mod will involve soldering as oppose to the original mod which doesnât.
I did have several occasions that the device was immersed in water, the device seem to survive without any issue. It will be your preferences.
Have you ever tried adding AA/AAA batteries to these sensors?
I soldered my wires as those 2 points are too short anyway. Used a sold 18/2 thermostat cable
