Rapid Battery Drain on Iris Gen 2 Sensors – Anyone Else?

Hey everyone,

I’ve noticed a significant change over the past 3 to 4 months and wanted to see if anyone else is experiencing the same issue.

I have 24 Iris water leak sensors and 18 Iris motion sensors, all Gen 2. Historically, the batteries in these devices would last 2 to 3 years. However, starting around April or May, I’ve been burning through batteries every 60 to 90 days.

For example, I replaced the battery in one leak sensor just a month ago, and it’s already showing 50%.

I haven’t been very active on the forums lately, so I’m wondering—did something change? Is this a known issue?

I recall an old thread by Mariano about the SmartThings driver polling devices too frequently. He had updated his driver to fix that, but I haven’t changed any drivers on my devices in over a year. Everything was working great before, with only occasional low battery or offline messages.

Anyone else seeing this?

I only have 1 Iris gen2 motion sensor and I am not seeing any battery life issues. I am using Mariano’s driver. Mine is close to my v2 hub and doesn’t utilize any repeaters.

I have set half to use the ST driver and half to use Mariano’s driver now. I want to see what the difference in battery life between the drivers is.
