Questions about wifi devices, xiaomi sensors and automatic blinds

Hi,
I do not yet own any smart devices, but am thinking of buying a couple and I have some questions.
I do really not want to waste any money on products that won’t work, so it would mean alot if you could help me out with the following.

So first off; do WiFi devices work with smartthings?
I was thinking of connecting some LED strips and bulbs (links further down) to the SmartThings hub and app, but can it do so. The led strips that used zigbee were so expensive and I haven’t managed to find any GU5.3 (MR16) bulbs anywhere that uses ZigBee or Z-Wave. Only wifi. And I was wondering if they do work with the smartthings hub.

Also, do xiaomi sensors work with smartthings, or do you need to have smartthings sensor or any other zigbee compatible ones.

And lastly, is there any device that can be connected to my blinds to make them compatible to SmartThings?. I don’t wanna buy new ones, just a motor and make it compatible with SmartThings

If you have any suggestions for light strips or bulbs, etc. Please link them!
Thanks

Some Wi-Fi devices, like some Wemo devices and some iHome devices have official SmartThings integrations.

For others, it just depends. See the following FAQ (the thread title is a clickable link)

Here’s the official compatibility list. That also shows other sensors:

As for the blinds, we would need a lot more information, such as the style and size of the blind. A picture would help.

If you check the community-created wiki, look at the quick browse lists, look down near the bottom of that page for the project report section, and then choose the list for shades and window coverings you can see project reports from various community members on what they have done to retrofit their blinds. :sunglasses:

You should also take a look at the device class features FAQ as far as discussions about lightbulbs, light strips, etc.

And before we go any farther, we do need to know what country you are in, as the device selection does vary somewhat.
