Noobie here and an oldie
Just started getting into smart devices.
I cant connect my Aqara camera G3 hub to my Samsung smartthings wifi hub V3.
When I use matter to connect, the camera to smartthings.
I get a message in smartthings " couldn’t add device .
Your hub doesn’t support this device".
Not sure if Ive come to the right place never be on a forum before.
Got all the latest updates, but still no idea.
You’re in the right place, but I suspect there’s a terminology issue here.
What’s the exact model number of your SmartThings hub. (It should be on a label on the bottom side.)
There is no “Wi-Fi hub V3.”
There is a Wi-Fi hub, which is an older model and does not fully support matter yet.
And there is a V3 hub which does use Wi-Fi, but is not called a Wi-Fi hub. It’s newer technology and does support More matter features.
Thanks JD,
As I said, verrrry new at all this.
After posting I looked on the Samsung site and found that my model ET-WV525 is not the version 3.
Below is what I grabbed from the same site.
[SmartThings Hub v3 (2018)
The SmartThings Hub (2018) is the third version of SmartThings’ core hardware, released in August 2018. This SmartThings Hub will say “SmartThings” on the right side of the front cover. Its model number is GP-U999SJVLGDB (for Canada).
All I am trying to do is to get my zigbee devices, to control my WIFI devices and vice versa.
I have got some wifi devices, the samsung hub, aqara camera G3 and zigbee devices.
I thought I would be able to bind( not sure if that’s the right word) the G3 to the Samsung hub.
OK, the one you have is the “Samsung SmartThings Wi-Fi hub with plume.“
That’s the older one and it will not be able to use your aqara G3 as a matter bridge.
The V3 hub is this one
it has been discontinued and replaced by a clone under a different brand, Aeotec, which is a partner company that took over the hardware manufacturing.
Most people in this forum also call that one a V3, because it’s the same hardware and software, just a different label.
Anyway, the technical term in this context is not “bind,“ it’s just “add“ or “add using matter.”
But at the time of this posting, the hub model that you have has not been updated to be able to do that with the aqara g3.
When aeotec took over the hardware manufacturing about two years ago, they specifically did not pick up the Wi-Fi router model. Nobody did.
Samsung hasn’t officially discontinued that model, but it is being updated much less frequently than the Aeotec model.
If you can still return the hub you have and replace it with an Aeotec one, you’ll find everything is much easier.
“I’ve had the hub from new sitting in the cupboard for while, thinking one day I will use it.
I got the G3 to play with zigbee devices and thought I will be able to use the Samsung, to bring them together.
I might buy the Aeotec smart hub if I have to.
As an old bastard, I am keen on learning about smart things.
Thanks again JD.”
If you aren’t going to use any Z wave devices, you can also get the newest SmartThings hub, which is manufactured by Samsung itself and called “the station.”
It doesn’t have a Z wave radio, so it costs less than the Aeotec. But it does have the newest matter features.
Goes in and out of stock a lot, But you can usually find it at a major retailer. Also note that it may be sold without the power adapter for less, but get the power adapter as it’s a little finicky about which ones it works with.
