The echo hub is finally on a big sale, down to $125. This is intended to be wall-mounted and serve as a dashboard control center for your SmartHome devices, but otherwise it works like any other echo device with a screen. Trade in credit available.
Has a built-in Zigbee hub and is a thread border router. Remember that if you connect a Zigbee device directly to the Echo hub, you can no longer connect it to SmartThings. On the other hand, Matter over thread devices can be connected to both simultaneously.
Based on the reviews, the screen isn’t great, the sound isn’t great, even the SmartHome features aren’t great. Most of the camera features are limited to Ring or abode brand devices.
What this specific device is best for:
However, the Echo Hub is essentially a remote control for other people to interact with your smart home.
It’s a simple wallmount dashboard that will make it easy for people who are not familiar with your system, or at least not as familiar as you are, to tap tiles to turn things on and off. Very useful in some homes, not very important in others.
Shane Whatley has his usual roundup page with links to many SmartHome discounts for the Amazon sale.
His perspective is as a HomeKit user, but most of the devices he lists will also work with SmartThings. Certainly the ones with matter will, but others as well, like Lutron.
So read the product descriptions carefully, but this is a good starting point.
There’s your Eve Energy deal, @mocelet !
Thanks! 30€ instead of 40€ sounds better.
(Funny thing is recently I found a workaround for my Android TV and, instead of the initial plan of using an Eve Energy to track the consumption to detect on / off, I’ve just got a license of the Macrodroid app to run SmartThings scenes when the TV is on / off / playing. I know, it’s a cloud based automation, don’t judge me )
By the way, Nanoleaf still has better “Prime deals” in their own store than Amazon, like the Matter over Thread light strip for 25€ instead of 37€ or the lights (which one decided to go offline yesterday and had to turn it off using the Nanoleaf app, meaning it was not a Thread issue but Matter issue).
My Nanoleaf strip is rock solid.
My Tapo H100 hub/bridge received its firmware update today and now my Kasa KE100 “speak” Matter. Going to post about that later.
To stay on topic: Tapo Prime Month rebate: 10 % off.
ThirdReality has a lot of their zigbee products on sale
Gee Whiz!! I overspent. 14 matter over thread devices and 6 matter over wifi devices.
