Hi, it’s 2025. What are recommended, currently manufactured, outdoor-rated, battery-powered smart buttons that work with Zigbee 3.0, or Z-Wave, and integrate with SmartThings? (Location: United States)
There were some Z-wave buttons but it looks like none are currently manufactured.
In general, it seems that smart buttons support three functions: single press, double press, and long press (press-and-hold). Let me know if other functions exist or can be programmed in.
Almost all Moes-branded Zigbee devices are rebranded Tuya devices, which is why you’ll see them under many different brand names.
FRIENDS OF HUE
personally, I really like the Gira+Senic double rocker in their friends of hue line. Comes in black, IP44, batteryfree. Typically costs about $80, but that’s for a double rocker and you’ll never have to buy batteries for it.
However, this is a Zigbee Green Power device, so it’s not directly compatible with a SmartThings/Aeotec hub; you have to bring it in through a hue bridge. But I really like mine. If you already have a hue bridge in your setup, I would definitely consider these.
If you use matter, then it’s very easy to add via the Hue hub matter integration.
It will look like four separate buttons in smartthings, and you can use them in routines.
As for other actions, those three are standard and the ones you’ll usually see.
Flic has their DUO model, which also has an internal gyroscope so if you hold it in your hand and move it around, you can get all kinds of additional functions.
It does offer a waterproof case specifically so it can be used outdoors.
You would have to have one of their mini hubs for the smartthings integration.
The first two production runs sold out, so now it’s in pre-order status for the next run.
I have a couple of friends who have these and love them. And the reviews are great.
I personally don’t have enough hand function to use one, so I’ve never tried it myself.
(I have a bunch of the regular flic buttons because my service dog can use them. I’ve been really happy with those over the years.)
Unless you’re already using Flic, it’s probably not what you’re looking for. The only reason I’m mentioning it here is because of the additional functions since you asked about that. So you can see that it is possible, but mostly for devices which also have internal gyroscopes.
