OSRAM E27 Edison Screw A60 ES 10W LED Lightify RGB Light Bulb

If it was a SmartApp that sent the command, you would see that. There’s no way from just that message to know whether ST sent a command to the bulb to turn on or if the bulb turned itself on and ST found out when polling. Based on the timing of the log entry and your son’s comment, I suspect ST sent an ‘on’ command.

Support might be able to help track it down. @tslagle13, Tim - can ST support recover debug logging from the past? I know this deviceType would log.debug the whole parse description, so we could see whether it was a default response to an ‘on’ command or the bulb reporting its state.

I had exactly the same on a couple of the lightify bulbs daily until I did the firmware upgrade @Hilly_2015 mentions…

Ooh and had a reply to an Osram website enquiry I placed… RGBW GU10 bulb will be available somewhere in the UK at some point this month (was a very vague response)

Are these bulbs still recomended and working well?

I’m using 3 now and have no problem whatsoever, using the Osram light strip as the device handler gives me the most accurate colour. Other drivers weren’t able to deliver the blue.

I bought mine from tesco direct using my club card points and boosting them. Essentially paying £16 per bulb.

I have 6 installed currently + the garden spots. All work well although some would initially turn on without trigger (say at 4am scaring the hell out of my wife who thought someone was in the house)… I bought the official Osram gateway for 20 something quid on Amazon, updated the firmware of all the bulbs and this hasn’t happened again since. I would deffinately suggesting getting an Osram gateway, pair each bulb to that initially and only after updating the bulbs connect to the ST hub directly.

Oh the garden spots only exist with a 2 pin EU plug in Europe as well which was a little disappointing in the uk.

Hope this helps.

Hello everyone!
I just wanted to share this fantastic offer I found in Amazon website, the osram lightify RGB are down to £15.5, I know this forum is not meant to be for offers… But I couldn’t stop my self sharing this with you, good people.

Thanks for that, just bought myself another one plus gateway, great price well spotted…

Yup Cheers, i was looking for 4 of the Philips Whites for 4 rooms i didnt need coloured lighting in… but they were out of stock everywhere at £14.99, just picked up 4 of these instead very good spot, its made my day

Cheers

these osram bulbs are great however they keep switching on by themselves but do not show the status that they are in fact on. this i believe is an attempt at firmware updating

Are you still seeing that behaviour after running the firmware updates available via an Osram Hub ?

I had a lot of problems with a couple of mine (currently running 8 lightify GU10 with another 10 ready to install when I can get to them and 12 A60 RGBW bulbs).

A specific pair of the A60’s kept sticking and regularly switched on randomly… As noted previously on this thread and elsewhere using the Osram hub to update the firmware seems to have resolved these issues.

ive just ordered an Osram gateway (an annoying expense), ordering one just to stop them switching on. bad design IMO, the zigbee circuit can be powered without the need to switch the LED’s on

I get your point but I’m not convinced that your thesis that they are looking for an update is correct…

Otherwise post update they would likely still be doing the same while waiting for the next update.

I think its generally agreed that the original firmware is just buggy.

Switching on randomly was just one of the weirdnesses… sticking ON was another.(switch off was only available by “rebooting” the bulb at the mains power switch). so I would guess that it was just bugs in the original firmware code

I have this “random turning on” issue with the Osram bulbs connected via the Hue hub. Created a smart app to try and manage the issue to avoid purchasing an Osram gateway.

As I use my bulbs in a single room, I created a master virtual switch for the bulbs and turn the Osram bulbs on/off via the virtual switch. I then created a smart app that forces a refresh every 5 minutes and ensures that the state of the individual bulb matches that of the master virtual switch. Seems to work and looking at the activity history of an individual Osram bulb reveals one or two times a day where a bulb has turned on for no reason and is forced back off again by the smart app.

thanks but i bought the gateway as it was in offer for £20. So its not happening anymore, I could have used your app but With The sudden loss of reliability post hub update I fear this wouldn’t work anyway

Nice solution, @Alyc100
The only reason I didn’t consider this is that my wife would STILL kill me if a lamp came on at 3am full brightness, even if the app then reset it.

The Osram gateway is only £20odd, and IMO worth it to stay alive

Instructions once you’ve got the hub are below from another thread:

My osram lights are in the garden so the app works fine for my purposes. I can definitely see why you would want the gateway if the lights were in the bedroom!

Got four GU10 / PAR16 bulbs installed and running the latest firmware… Unfortunately they still keep turning on randomly and individually. So there’s more to be done on the firmware side I fear!

Also have a couple of E27 RGBs and they’ve so far been more reliable than the GU10s.

I did have to change the device type of the GU10s to a Zigbee Tunable White bulb and works OK as ST adds them as a hue bulb (with colour selector) by default, which clearly isn’t going to work.

My local Tesco Extra (Purley, Surrey) has these bulbs (the A60 RGBW ones) for about £14 at the moment (Edison not bayonet). They are also selling the gateway for £20 and they have some Wemo stuff on sale too. Not sure if it’s limited to just this Tesco and I was quite surprised to see them in there. They were in the electrical section (upstairs in my case) and not in with the usual bulbs.

Otherwise £30 for a bulb is crazy money!

Not had a problem with the A60s turning on randomly since I flashed them. Interesting.
