Older hub - connection issue

For the 3010224578 hub (120 Caramel Hub), Device Firmware Updates: is set to Don’t Allow.

Mine allow a choice of Automatic Update or Manual Update only. Can you change yours to Automatic Update?
If you can, power down your hub for several minutes (remove batteries, if present, also) and then restart. Even better, if you still have the welcome code, factory reset the hub by holding down the reset button, while powering up, until the LED display’s solid yellow.
(Do NOT do this with your FP Hub)
If this does not work, it may be the expired certificate mentioned earlier in this thread. The absence of a ‘Lua Library API Version’ field suggests an older firmware version.
Afraid I have no experience of blocking NTP traffic.
Good luck.

I have been through the resets multiple times both with and without ntp blocked. I think that because these particular hubs have missed some crucial updates that the servers they look for may have been decommissioned. That would be why developers and engineers that understand all the background details are needed.

Were you able to change this field to Automatic Update?

While I have found SmartThings support staff to be very helpful, I doubt that developers and engineers are going to be very engaged with a (getting for) 10 year old product that you bought on eBay for peanuts. Sorry.

Then they should provide an upgrade path. Aeotec hardware not available in the US. So what should be the solution when your hub fails and you have a lot invested in light control, water sensors etc. Not everyone wants to move over to Home Assistant.

You have a point. Aeotec SmartThings V3 hubs are available in the UK; I have checked both Samsung and Amazon (UK). Of course the EU Z-Wave frequency differs from the US.
I cannot understand why it is not available in the US; it’s not like anybody has imposed a new import tariff on such things; oh wait …
I suspect if Aeotec only sold SmartThings hubs they would pay the tariff and increase the retail price, but things are rarely that simple.
In the meantime, have you tried setting Device Firmware Updates: to Automatic Update?

Let’s follow up… have you tried blocking the ntp port 123 according to the instructions ST posted in the troubleshooting thread?

Multiple times with and without ntp. I also blocked port 37. It’s an older time protocol I found on an Aeotec page. I have two that do exactly the same thing. I also have a third but that one was never released properly so I can’t get it claimed/registered.

Yes but it doesn’t seem to retain the settings. Interesting that it did register so we know it communicated with some servers. The question is what does it need next that it cannot find.

Yes, sorry, after writing that I read elsewhere in this forum that it keeps rolling back to Don’t Allow.
I actually have 2 spare (UK) V2 hubs that I plug in every 6 months to get the latest firmware because I do not want to get caught in your situation. It’s odd to think that a well used hub is a safer purchase than new old stock. None of mine cost more than $20 in the UK.
I’m afraid I am now at the limit of my knowledge.
I actually have a pair of SmartThings WiFi that I bought cheaply in the knowledge that they were locked to an EU third party (Vodafone) and unlikely to work. I might try to to see if I can get anywhere by blocking NPT now that they are allegedly unlocked.
Good luck.

Yesterday there were no used Aeotec hubs available and today they have some so if you want one you had better act fast. Note: this is the Aeotec store so you should not have any problems with them. https://smartmatters.co/collections/zigbee-hubs-gateways/products/aeotec-smart-home-hub-smartthings-aeohubv3

Update: Sold out now so keep checking there is you want one

Well, I was going to take the chance and buy it, even with the 10 percent tariff. However, when I put in calculate shipping the message is we don’t ship there. Tried again but now it says sold out. According to the description it’s a 2021 model. I will continue to check periodically and in the meantime send some emails to internal Samsung offices. Ridiculous that these replacement devices would get turned into electronic landfill.

So, if you go to this Samsung site and do a search on Smartthings Hub it brings up the new hub. Of course there are none and this is the comment.

It’s not you. It’s us. We can’t make them fast enough.

From Aoetec a recent service conversation:

Yes, we have new V3 units on the way from our manufacturer. There was a pause in manufacturing that has since resumed. Some of these should be available mid-September with the bulk available in early November.

There are talks to bring a V4 into production by early next year, but we do not have the specs or a concrete ETA at this time. We will provide that information to customers when and if it becomes available.
