This would be very cool if we could do it with Smartthings instead.

That’s very cool. There’s the voice control feature that’s been so elusive. Not sure how likely it is ST would embrace it, maybe they can with S Voice? The one thing positive about Quirky’s direction is they are constantly adding new hardware and features.
I believe there is a tasker add in for voice control that would let you do that.

Sure. I use that, but it would be a lot easier if it was already integrated. Most users would not be able to work with Tasker.

There are a few good threads on this:
GETTING ACCESS TO SMARTAPP ENDPOINTS
In order to get SmartThings working with Tasker on Android, I will assume you’ve completed Danny’s Endpoint API tutorial here . (old link sorry) You will need to be able to host your own PHP file as per Danny’s instructions, because at the time of this post, Danny’s hosted PHP file is down.
PREPPING TASKER
Once you have finished Danny’s tutorial, the first thing we need to do on our Android smartphone is allow External Access, which will allow apps like NFC Task Launcher (see Part 2: NFC) to initiate Tasker tasks.
Step 1: Open Tasker, tap the Menu button and go to Preferences.
Step 2: Check the “Allow External Access” option and click the X in the top right corner.

AUTHORIZING ACCESS TO YOUR DEVICES
Now it’s time to get the End…
Hey everyone,
I am sure many of you have heard of Ivee (helloivee.com ). I personally don’t own one, but it did make me do some thinking. For them to achieve integration with SmartThings, it would appear they have to communicate with the SmartThings cloud. Is this correct? Have we heard of any way to do this officially as of yet?
Here is where I am going with this…: My dream would be to put 5+ Raspberry Pi’s in my house, with a good bi-directional mic, and a wifi dongle. Toss on a simple “always listening app” and basically build a voice recognition app using one of the many cloud-based voice recognition api’s.
I look at the products like Ivee, and in some ways I feel that they are too ambitious with trying to integrate into 100 solutions, they are trying to do too much with having a pr…

Be sure to follow the few Amazon Echo Topics here.
It’s a great device… Relatively accurate, and a few of us have developer access so will be doing some Proof-of-Concept SmartThings integration.
