No "Unlock" Option for Galaxy Device (October 23)

Unfortunately I have a critical problem, I have unlock option on smart things find but it doesn’t work at all. I’m sure I have turn it on, but it doesn’t work. Any suggestions?

I’ve only just encountered this notice. I’d imagine it won’t be going down too well.

I don’t actually have a ‘Retrieve calls and messages’ setting to start with (the functionality is on the website, there just isn’t a setting on the phone).

How to resolve this problem?

Any resolution? I have been locked for nearly a week now

Hi, did you manage to do this? Or was the old security still necessary?

Yea, Its pretty useless without that option considering Samsung devices have a habit of locking you out of devices you put a PIN into.
I just had to factory reset my S21 Ultra as it refused to accept my PIN despite it being the correct PIN, this option would have saved me loosing precious piks and vids of my sister before she died of Cancer, they should have been backed up but they weren’t.
I can never get them back!!

What a great idea discontinuing that function,
So you just cant secure your phone with a PIN now as they sometimes don’t recognise the pin (as mines did the other night, had to factory reset it)

same issues do you unlock ur galaxy now?

i cant even factory reset my galaxy!

how many numbers are needed cs i really forgrt

4 I think.
I had to factory reset mine.
Let me know if you wanna know how.

how? cz I’ve been visiting Samsung service center but They can’t reset mine

Plug it into a laptop and hold down power, vol+vol- at the same time until you see phone switching off (circle on screen) when you see this happning release vol+ and vol- keep your finger on power button and your phone should show you the BOOT menu. Select factory reset.
REMEMBER: You will loose EVERYTHING on you’re phone.
Hope this helps.

Why they discontinued with critical option? I am fully locked out and all my memories gone… tried so many passwords, I am even sure one of them was correct but still not accepted. I cannot do anything… is there any customer care? This is extremely frustrating and unfair.

Doesn’t using the ‘Lock’ option to set a one time PIN on the phone give you any useful functionality? I haven’t looked to see what you can and can’t do when you unlock your phone using it. I assume you can’t do much about the existing security but I was hoping you might at least be able to run backups that would mitigate any losses from a factory reset.

I have been randomly locked out as well, very certain it was the right password. Safe Mode ended up switching on flight mode, so I couldn’t receive calls either.

Has anyone tried the “Lock” option to set up the one time PIN ? I really do not want to do a factory reset.

Oh I see what you mean. I locked it using one time pin. Would it ask for password after I try to unlock it using one time pin? Since I need to wait 20hrs before I can try to unlock it? I would be perfectly all right just to unlock it back up my photos and then I am fine with hard reset. I also have a fingerprint set even…

UPDATE:
I have just tried it. After you enter one time PIN, it is still asking for the password…

So I see. When I tried that at the end of October it was using the PIN you set with the Lock option as a one use replacement for any existing security. Now it seems to be added on top of the existing security. I supposed if the Unlock option has been removed it makes sense to change the Lock option.

Exactly. But are they going to amend it? this is unbearable, I am locked out for a week now, 2 whatsapp accounts, 2 viber accounts, telegram, ebanking accounts, and the most prescious - my photos and memories. And I am logged in to both Samsung, OneDrive and Google accounts, I even have original box and invoice, but it is still insufficient confirmation for Samsung to unlock my own phone. This is beyond belief …

I am frustrated for us both! I wonder if it has anything to do with the December UI 6 update…

I might try this next wiping the cache next.

Wipe Cache Partition: Clearing the system cache partition may help resolve issues after an update. To do this:

  • Turn off the phone.
  • Press and hold the volume up button, the power button, and the Bixby button simultaneously.
  • Once the Samsung logo appears, release all buttons.
  • Use the volume buttons to navigate to “Wipe cache partition” and use the power button to select it.
  • After the process is complete, select “Reboot system now.”

Unless anyone tried this and it didn’t work?

BTW:
If you missed the password 50 times in a row, the device will be locked because it isn’t considered a normal user.
