New garage door opener

Same here. I contacted linear. They honored my year warranty even though it was 13 months out. If you go the warranty route, be patient. They will ignore you. I had to keep calling and asking them about my claim. Eventually they sent me a new one after production of my amazon receipt.

That would be the one for me.

UPDATE: Nexx Garage now supports IFTTT. This makes a reasonable workaround possible.

I don’t recommend this solution for the novice smart home installer, but if you know how to create virtual switches in Smartthings, this works very nicely.

Smartthings has a virtual garage door controller. I use it to trigger IFTTT to open or close the door.

I added a zwave tilt sensor to the door and created a routine within Smartthings to update the status of the garage door.

ANOTHER UPDATE: It should be noted (after some experience) at IFTTT sometimes lags by more than a minute, which can cause issues with the virtual garage door in Smartthings. This lag will sometimes re-open the door after you have closed it.

YET ANOTHER UPDATE: Smartthings USED to have a virtual garage door opener. The latest update doesn’t include this handy feature.

Nexx Garage now supports IFTTT. That creates some new options for integration with most smart home hubs.

Novice installers will still find this challenging, but if you’re familiar with creating virtual switches, etc. in Smartthings, this becomes viable.

Hi Mark, is there a way I can get instructions how to add IFTTT to my Nexx Garage?

Thanks,

Greg

The connection between Nexx Garage (or any device) and IFTTT is handled on the IFTTT side.

Create your free IFTTT account, search the “Services” for Nexx Garage and add it.
Then install IFTTT on your smartphone and log in.

There are a number of handy applets on the IFTTT Web site, including “Open my garage when I press a button.” From the IFTTT Web site, choose this applet and follow the online instructions to create and enable it.

Then, on your Android phone (iPhone users are on your own here), add a “widget” to one of your screens. (Press and hold a blank space on a screen, and tap “WIDGETS” at the bottom.

Scroll down until you see the IFTTT widgets and select and hold “IFTTT Small 1 x 1”. Drag it to your desired location and drop.

A list of enabled IFTTT applets will appear. Choose “Open my garage when I press a button.”

Voila! When you tap this button, Nexx Garage will open the door.

I hope this helps.

To create virtual buttons in Smartthings, search the community. There are detailed instructions to be found here.

I added the Nexx Garage opener to my gate. Then added IFTTT to connect to Google Assistant, and it works great!
Ask Google " Hey Google open the gate." (I did add a few phrases to tell Nexx to open garage door.) Then of course close gate as well.

So while NexxHome (formerly NexxGarage) does integrate with IFTTT, it takes between 10 and 15 minutes for the communication to occur so this is not a reliable option for triggering actions based on the garage door. Also, the SmartThings status is not updated when opening the garage door manually or even from the NexxHome app. All in all, I was trying to implement my NexxHome garage with Home Assistant. The only way to do so is through SmartThings, but since the status of the garage door isn’t updated unless opened via SmartTings, it’s pretty useless. I really liked my NexxGarage, but since they’ve switched to NexxHome, it rarely works( opening based on location) and their customer support has greatly declined. It seems nearly impossible to get a response from them on these issues. I am seriously considering switching to a different garage controller and have to recommend avoiding NexxGarage at this point.

OK. I bought a new Go Control garage door opener. My Linear died. I was able to pair my new Go Control but it just says “Checking Status”. Is there something I need to change in the ide? I thought I had to do something when I connected my original Linear garage opener. I believe they are the same device.

Thanks.
Mike
