Nanoleaf introduced its first dedicated outdoor lights during CES 2024 in a move that should help the company catch up with rivals like Hue, Govee, and Twinkly. The Smart Multicolor Outdoor String Lights and Smart Multicolor Permanent Outdoor Lights are the latest additions to the company’s Matter Essentials line and will be available this spring.
Tapo H500 is the perfect local storage solution for multiple cameras. It comes with 16GB eMMC, expandable up to 16 TB via an extra HDD/SDD drive†, delivering massive, secure local storage.
Homey Pro announcement:
Today, Homey is announcing that the Homey Pro can now download a free software update that enables its built-in Thread radio. Through the update, Matter-over-Thread devices can be directly connected to Homey Pro without needing a secondary Thread Border Router.
I still wish they supported 433 MHz controls in North America like they do in Europe, but this is still a good step for them.
We should also add that they only entered the North American market a few months ago, and they still lack integrations for many devices that are US made. So this point, I think it’s still a better match for European users. We’ll see what happens over time.
Typical user review from the US:
The Homey Pro promises much but offers less. It was designed and built for the European market not the US. Therefore it will not support Ecobee beyond model 3 pro nor will it support wifi devices as promises such as Lockley Wifi lock. Its Aquara support is also limiting it will not support FP2 sensor. In all a device that offesr the promise of master of all home integration but falls short in delivery and execution.
I would pay to have that installed into my homes electrical system. Looks way to cool.
Speaking of Homey Pro, someone pointed out to me the new North America version isn’t listed on zwave alliance site as certified
Pretty underwhelming considering how long it has been since the Matter announcements.
I love the Roborocks; I have two S4 Max models. I can’t wait for them to be compatible with Matter, but $1800.00 seems a bit steep! I purchased the S4’s for $500 each, and I thought that was a lot.
Im liking the nanoleaf lights & lockly facial lock but not sure if they ever will work well with smartthings & lets say they do become compatible through matter, will most features be crippled & maybe through smartthings we can only turn it on or off. Not sure what to expect but im keeping my fingers crossed.
That’s about normal for several companies flagship models when first released. After a couple months they’ll regularly go on sale for several hundred dollars off.
I’ll wait for a sale and opt for a model without the mopping feature. I already have a dedicated Shinebot for that.
Nothing new here, but nicely organized if your primary interest is matter:
I was hoping for a Kasa 3 way Matter switch but no dice.
TP-link didn’t have anything Kasa branded in their booth. Only Tapo. The rep said they aren’t retiring the brand but the writing seems to be in the wall, especially now that Kasa devices are supported in the Tapo app.
Well, I always wondered why a device like a smart phone shouldn’t be able to be the only Matter controller you need. I learned that today when I was at the office, away from my home network. When checking something on my ThirdReality Smart Night Light, I found I couldn’t reach it from the vendor supplied Matter commissioner/controller app because I wasn’t on my home network. I could, however, reach it from my ST app because it can reach my hub over the Internet and the hub is the Matter controller. So, I now know the benefit of having a Internet-accessible local hardware device be the controller vs just an app on a phone
See how simple matter made everything?
