So I was looking through the Partner Devices List and came across the Level Home Inc, i was most excited as I have two and even more excited when i saw that apparently my Level Bolt locks were under the options i have had the Matter update for a few months no on locks so this shouldn’t be a big deal. All it says on the smartthings app is that hub os required. No problem i have a hub that suppors matter. So what am i missing. It asks for qr code. Not sure where that is and then there is an option to use code instead. I assumed it was the one on body of lock that works for apples homekit. Didnt work there is scanning option but i assumer i will need to disconnect it from the the level connect devices. Am i missing a sinple solution to get this to work?
Devices that get Matter support via a firmware update usually display the QR code or the pair code in the vendor’s app, somewhere. So look in the Level app to see if there’s any mention of Matter in your device.
The ones printed in the device, as you said, are for Homekit or other purposes.
BTW, are you sure your Level Bolt is Matter compatible now? There’s not even an article on how to setup Matter in the Level website. And in media they talk about an additional Matter bridge called Level Connect (edit: nothing, the bridge is not Matter as confirmed in comments below).
The two Level Home locks certainly appear to be WWST certified and fingerprinted as Matter locks.
However, as you say, beyond that there is pretty much complete radio silence when it comes to having now enabled Matter over Thread on their locks (they are Thread capable).
I get the impression Level Connect was something of a stopgap Wi-Fi solution while Matter support in the wild was still developing.
We have the level lock with the “ level connect bridge” on one door at our home. We use it with Apple HomeKit and the bridge allows us to use it with Alexa. But neither the lock itself nor the bridge work with matter.
This bridge device is a bridge similar to the August Wi-Fi bridge. It is not a “matter bridge.” It connects to the Bluetooth level lock to give you some additional integration, primarily to either Alexa or Googlehome.
There’s been a lot of confusion because the Level company first said that all of their locks would get a firmware update to work with thread and then they said they would work with matter over thread. But that was back in 2022 and it never happened.
Then in 2023 they put out a new version of the lock called the “Level Lock plus“ and they did get that one certified for matter. But they never sold it with matter functionality. It still just works with HomeKit or the voice assistants. They did add the ability to use Apple homekey.
And then in late 2023 they put out their new “ connect bridge“ which doesn’t use matter at all but does give customers two things they didn’t have before: the ability to use the lock with Alexa and the ability to access the lock remotely without using HomeKit.
Currently their site has a long page explaining everything about matter, including which matter controllers would be necessary on the home automation platform, and then the very last sentence let you sign up for an email notification once matter is enabled on the Level Lock plus.
What Is The Matter Standard? | Level
Honestly, I’m not sure why it’s showing up in the partner list for SmartThings, although I agree that it is. But you can’t use it yet because matter is not yet turned on for the lock, at least for most users. (Maybe Level has a beta program, although I haven’t seen an announcement of it anywhere.)
Was this an update from the level company? I hadn’t seen that that was released yet, and my understanding was that it was only going to be on the level plus model. But maybe there’s a beta program.
Anyway, if you do have matter capability on your level locks so that they could be added to other home automation platforms as well, then there should be the ability within the Level app (not the SmartThings app) to generate the QR code that you will need to add it to other platforms like SmartThings.
You should contact Level support to find out how to get that QR code.
Indeed, that Level Connect is not even a Matter bridge. And the status of the Matter update is not even clear.
That is what I thought, though I am but a novice when it comes to anything Matter. There was firmware update a few months back that talked about Matter and I read a few different post about it . I know that it was certified for matter 1.2 so just more evidence thst they are doing something, but as said by comments there has been radio silence from level and I figured that they would be proclaiming that it now working so that they could bolster their sales. I saw this a few weeks back and initially asked about it in support email, but i never truly thought i would get a straight answer from them. The problem is that though it is matter supported and certified, Thread support is yet to have any talk at all. which I assume why it is not big news. I was curious for that reason. Maybe it had to do with a connection from level connect to matter hubs, but also as said there is nothing to show that level connect even has the ability to do such a thing. I agree that level connect is just a band-aid until they figure out the whole Thread and Matter situation but it is there as plain as day in smartthings app showing that it is compatible with a hub. I was just wondering if somehow I missed this. The level connect is fine but i have had 2 die on me already and they just realsed them late last year or maybe early this year. Level did replace both of them but it was slightly tedious and i would rather just connect directly to a hub vs the current solution. I know they were recently bought out so hopefully it doesnt delay it anymore.
Sorry for stiring up a touchy subject. I truly am not sure what is going on. Im sure everyone can look for themselves but i have attached a screen shot of what I see in smartthings which prompted my question about setting it up.
I had that same issue with the first one dying after only a few months and they replaced it pretty quick, indicating they knew they were some problems. So far (touch wood) the second one is doing well.
I know it’s been certified, but if you actually buy one, it doesn’t have matter implemented.
If you look on their website, you can sign up to get an email when matter is implemented, and that’s it. No support articles about how to use matter.
Not trying to be negative because when it does work it works well but if it werent for the fact that i despice anything stucking on the back of the door i probably wouldnt have bought any. I bought them in hopes that they would do what they said. But there are other brands that work better and have other connection options, i just like the bulky battery case. I will say as i do have a level connect for both my doors i was able to set up routine in google home to do what i wanted but I really prefer not having the connect and I wanted to have most of my stuff on the hub vs just floating around in google home because they have no option at all to work with smartthings. I still just dont understand why its showing up on partner devices.
This has always been a problem. App catalog vs reality. The dates are never properly aligned. It seems like there’s some automated script that shortly after a WWST device is added to the edge driver then it publishes in the app. No part of the WWST process or this script seems to have a field called “publish date” that is taken into account.
There seems to be one called releaseDate
with the latest date in the devices catalogue for any devices being 12:00 AM UTC yesterday. Here are the entries for two Level Home devices.

Level has just announced a new model of the level+ lock, which does work with matter.
It also says it works with SmartThings, so this must be the model that the app was showing.
Cost is the same ($329) as the Level+ Bluetooth lock and $20 less than the Level+ Wi-Fi lock.
I don’t see any indication that older Level lock models can be upgraded to use matter, though. It looks like you need to buy this new model. If anyone knows different, please let us know.
So does it mean we are left high and dry because they changed some chip or do you think thwy are anouncing this to get peoples attention again and they are really just shipping it with a new firmware? Im hoping the latter is the case. Not saying they won’t screw people over like every other tech company but maybe just maybe we will get lucky.
"Level is offering a free firmware upgrade inside the Level app until 1/14/2025, so make sure you upgrade as soon as possible. " This is of course for new and existing Level lock + Users not the Level Bolt but hey thats a start. Doesnt look like they have announced the level bolt update but fingers crossed that it happens soon
Why is there a deadline for a firmware update? strange.
