Issues Connecting with Cree Connected Bulbs

Hi everyone,

I’m migrating from the V1 hub to v2 and have been successful in pairing everything except most of my Cree Connected bulbs. I have 2 bulbs that paired miraculously and a Peanut. They all reliably respond to commands. I’m very familiar with the reset sequence and can get the bulbs to flicker like a champ. I’ve tried resetting the bulbs before and during the pairing attempt from the hub’s perspective in man y combinations. Here’s what I’ve done so far:

  1. Tried to pair old bulbs in original locations - fail
  2. Tried to pair old bulbs immediately next to the v2 hub - fail
  3. Reset the hub and tried again - fail
  4. Bought 2 new Cree Connected bulbs and tried to pair them just inches away - fail
  5. Shut off wi-fi and tried to pair new bulb - fail
  6. Shut off wifi and tried to pair old bulbs - fail
  7. Wrapped a clip lamp and hub in an aluminum foil tent - fail (I now feel like a crazy person)
  8. Ran a 75 yard network cable out to the garage to try to pair the new and old bulbs there - fail
  9. Tried to pair old and new bulbs to V1 hub - fail (very weird)

Is there any way to run diagnostic on zigbee?
Am I living in some weird electro-magnetic environment?

Called the support phone number and was instructed to send email - did that. No response so far.

Any thought or suggestions? I would GREATLY appreciate any help!

Thanks,
Jeff

Since this is the definitive Cree Connect bulb thread, I wanted to share my experience and solution:

SUCCESS!!! :joy::joy::joy:

I can’t prove it, but consider me a believer in the Zigbee interference from the itron power meter theory.

After taking a look at the likely positioning of power meters in the immediate vicinity, I figured it was worth a shot to try and pair the bulbs out in my front yard. Using a long extension cord and network cable, I also put the bulb in a metal clamp light, sat the hub directly on top and then wrapped the whole thing in aluminum foil. It didn’t work every time, but it worked most of the time.

The neighbors must think I’ve lost it. Jiffypop anyone?

Had a power issue in the house recently that forced me to turn off my breakers repeatedly over the span of a couple hours to track down. That process whacked out nearly all my Cree bulbs. They did not go ‘missing’ in ST, but they were unresponsive.

The following worked for me to restore their ST functionality - and their corresponding Alexa/ST functionality. It is similar to the ‘reset’ that you use to pair bulbs.
A) power one bulb off for two seconds, on for two seconds.
B) Repeat that on/off cycling five times.
C) go to My Home - Things and + Add a Thing.
D) turn on the bulb in question.

The bulb will not show up as a new thing - but it will work at that point.
Go back to the Things screen and check it out. Use ST to turn it off, turn it back on, dim it.

Do that for each bulb that has gone unresponsive.

After trying 4 different bulbs with no success, this trick worked for two of them at least. Thanks

Might as well throw my solution in the pot.

Been trying for months to reconnect a bulb. What worked for me was:

  1. Reboot hub, wait for boot up.
  2. Reset bulb.
  3. Start pairing on hub.
  4. Turn bulb off and on as fast as I could non stop until the hub found it :man_facepalming:
  5. Pour a double bc this is dumb.

Connecting Cree Bulb to Smartthings is not easy but can be done with below steps.

  1. You MUST have light switch connected bulb holder to RESET the bulb.
  2. Turn Off, On (1sec), Off (2 sec) 3-4 times and you will find blub flickers to indicate it got reset.
  3. Turn Off, on Smartthings App, Add a Thing => Add Device Manually => Light Bulbs => Cree LED Bulb => Connect Now.
  4. If it fails to connect, keep tuning Off, On, and within 3-4 minutes you will find it got connected as “Thing”.
  5. Try step 1 to 4 if it still fails, and you will learn the trick and finally it gets connected.
  6. Even after showing up as “Thing” you can’t turn the light On/Off.
  7. Go to your Smartthings IDE and login, Click on My Devices => Thing => Edit => Type => Zigbee Dimmer => Save
  8. Now you can turn off/on the bulb from Smartthings App.
