Is Philips Hue the neglected one and TCP the favored one

Hi everyone! Quick update, with some help from Bob we were able to identify the problem that would prevent to install Hue after you delete it like it happened to @smart.

Also, I identified the problem adding new bulbs, different device type for bulbs with color or not, state updates for bulbs every 5 minutes and lot of minor bugs.

I have all this working, I will submit for testing and hope to publish this soon.

Thanks for your patience!

Is your code going to include groups?

No, in this case we fixed what’s available through the public API. I can write a small Smartapp to create groups operated by a virtual device while we find out what improvements we can add after the official integration.

I’m just curious…as I’m sure you know, ZLL supports a bunch of different bulb types, include no color dimmable but no temperature control, and no color with temperature control (cool to warm).

A friend who’s a network engineer told me that Cree and GE Link were two different bulb types, did you verify that?

They are but they can pair with the bridge using the zigbee protocol. I haven’t tried myself but this should work as a Hue Lux

As soon as the new code is pushed I will rewrite my Hue Lights and Groups (connect) to use it. Hopefully this will fix some of the issues I have been having.

Nice… Philips Hue now touting Nest on Facebook…well, what’s up with us!!! It’s going to be like a one sided match between England and NZ in progress right now on ESPN world cup cricket 2015… Helll…

Atleast bring on team usa even though we don’t play cricket. Some of us do here in Jersey though!

Seeing how the new connect app is posted up internally… I have started remaking the Hue Groups and LIghts app.

There are a lot of significant changes in the code and the way that it connects and refreshes the status. Im excited to see the results of this!

Added Bulb # 11 and would not discover, after uninstalling the bridge I got a error on re-install saying it did not save during the bulb discovery. I uninstalled a second time and now it will not discover the bridge at all. Followed directions cycling the Smart Hub, Updating firmware, and resetting my network. Checked to see if the bridge was still connected via the web portal and it is not listed. My investment in third party devices like Hue is also an investment in Smartthings as I expand sensors to add further control. Looking for a prompt resolution from Smartthings to allow me to add back a big part of my smart home experience. Happy to provide information as needed to expedite the resolution process.

@Anyway one lesson that I learnt the hard way is not to remove the hue hub but was lucky enough to reclaim it back after a day or two and I did nothing but kept trying to get is back if you go thru this thread. They are talking about a full integration sometimes soon as far as I could gather and some improvements soon. Don’t ask me how soon.

I have 13 hues and related products and for some reason for the last few days, all 13 of them are turning on via the Hello Home action in one shot which is a record (hope I didn’t jinx it). I am sitting on 3 new hues but not taking any chance of adding it till the integration gets reasonably better. I know this doesn’t help you but sharing my current experience.

BTW: did you remove the hub from the MobileApp versus the IDE?

@juano2310, do you know how long it will be for testing and before it is published? I, like others, are holding off on future purchases of hue until these issues are resolved.

Thank you

@smart Removed via MobileApp, checked IDE it is not there either. Does anyone know if I can manually add the bridge back in via IDE instead of via the MobileApp?

You have to go the mobile app way! Hope things will get better… I had done the same thing when I hosed it…

Not really, once it’s submitted for review it is tested on iOS, Android and Windows phone. If it works it get approved and published. It is set as a priority. Maybe @thegibertchan has a better idea of a timeline for publishing.

Hope this post doesn’t get flagged! did you know that there were 207 Philips Hues during the 2015 New Years NY Times Square ball drop… Imagine if there was a sign there ā€œpowered by SmartThingsā€.

Perhaps this is the most popular and the most ignored product in our ST world with mere promises and more promises. And may be the only reason why some of us average user/techies decided to get the ST hub. Seriously how long do we have to wait? Probably will have the highest WAF so that we can sneak in other products of our liking since the missus is happy and the population out of control with the ā€œmood lightingā€. And this product is probably the one loved by a new born baby to the oldest generation.

@thegibertchan @juano2310

And fellow brothers and sisters, please back me up on this one. I will not step it down and nag and nag!

I’d hardly say it is the ā€œmost ignoredā€. Just with a casual glance, it seems that this Topic has more posts from actual ST Engineers than discussions on quite a few others.

But I guess there’s not much value in racing to find the ā€œworstā€ Device. I would find it valuable, however, if the ā€œWorks With SmartThingsā€ webpage had lots of detail for each item, instead of just ā€œSmartThings Labs releaseā€.

@thegibertchan, any idea how long this process @juano2310 mentioned above will be? I’d like to continue to add some hue bulbs and am happy to test but I have no idea when this fix will be released.

My Hue setup went south over the weekend. ST doesn’t control my Hue Bulbs anymore.

I am going to wait for this release before I delete and re-add everything again.

Our QA team is running through the fixes. I’m hoping less than a week.
